Good communication with service users encourages participation in activities therefore promoting equality within the care setting. The service user can gain the trust and understanding from the care worker and therefore communicate the needs that individual requires. Good communication amongst staff encourages a better working relationship and ensures all tasks are completed to a high standard. Good communication between staff members is important to ensure problems are picked up and solved quickly. Such as an elderly service user having a preference to a bath rather than shower, the service user can then communicate this information effectively to staff and pass this information on to their colleagues.
1.2 Explain how communication affects relationships in adult social care settings. In relationships, the building of trust and understanding between people make it easier to get things done. Working as part of a team, you have to work alongside colleagues and share a workload. If there are good relationships, then working becomes easier because people will co-operate and trust develops. The key relationships are with the people I support.
This is so we can reduce mistakes and hopefully stop problems from occurring, it also helps to ensure the highest level of personal care can be given. This must mean that information given in the various forms of communication is clear, to the point, accurate, informative and non-judgmental. Using these guidelines for communication all colleagues can work better together towards the same goals for the service users. Some ways I currently use effective communication in my job is by using the house communication book, service user’s daily diaries, staff meetings, handover briefings, 3 or 6 monthly personal reviews or even just asking things quickly with shift leaders or key workers. * An explanation of why it is important to observe an individual’s reactions when communicating with them.
Communication between colleagues is essential, so that it ensures a continuity of care for the client, and all staff are aware of the current needs of the client. 1.2 Explain how effective communication affects relationships in the work setting. Within the care setting I communicate using: Communication books, Handovers with Colleagues, Staff meetings, and super visions with my team leader. All these was of communicating help with work relationships between yourself, other staff and tenants. The staff are always up to date with anything new with the tenant ie medication changes, And the tenants know they are being cared for correctly by all staff.
This will then give a people an overall job satisfaction and this will lead to them feel confident in their job and will allow them to do their job probably without any doubts. It will also maintain a level of independence to the employees and make them feel respected and valued as an employee. A research showed that nurses are attracted to remain at their place of work when there are opportunities to advance their knowledge and to maintain independent throughout their job role and to also maybe have a say in what goes on throughout their workplace as this will make the feel involved with the business. Health & Social Care Level 2 PWCS26 – Understand person-centred approaches in adult social care settings 1.1 Person centred values; * Respect * Individuality * Choice * Privacy * Acknowledging diversity * Acknowledging rights 1.2 It is important to work in a person centred way so that the best possible care is provided for the service user. This ensures the service user has the best quality of life possible for them and that their needs are met. 2.1 The history and preferences of an individual are gained by referring to their historical reports, their care plan, other carers, their family and the service user themselves. 2.2 By using all the material and consulting with all the appropriate individuals as well as the service user themselves. Ensure that the care plan is drawn up with these considerations.
As a manager this should be an ongoing activity which is the “norm” for a care organisation which will enhance the quality of my work, make staff happier which can only make for positive outcomes for the care home and the service users. I am reasonable for completing all CQC applications and notifications, policies and procedures, general risk assessments, DBS checks, dealing with complaints etc. I am responsible for others such as staff, my service users, families and visitors etc. so it is imperative that I am knowledgeable in all areas of management to enable me to manage effectively and within the legislations set out by CQC. Continuing my professional development has been important for my career and has helped me vastly with problem solving.
This means that the care of the service users will be improved since the staff are able to solve problems quickly and effectively. Having trained staff, that are educated with legislations, policies and procedures and are up to date with the current knowledge, means that they can provide excellent service for the service user. This allows the service user to relax as they will have confidence in the quality of care they receive. The staff members will also provide the correct service needed in a safe and friendly environment. This will improve the experience that the service user has.
This level of communication is important to support the building of a positive relationship with their care worker and myself. I would use formal positive communication when communicating with social workers and other professionals, again this communication ensures the positive relationship building between all parties, ensuring confidentiality at all times. 1.3 Analyse the barriers and challenges to communication within
