But the management decided to admit residents with higher level of dependency and additional needs and ‘simply could not cope’. The scandal started when a female resident was admitted to hospital with severe pressure ulcers, unresponsive, dehydrated. She died following day. Another resident was found in similar condition and died the same day. Shortly after three other residents died in different care settings.
Over the last several years, wait time and corruption inside of the Veterans Affairs Health Care administration have lead to massive delays, with some patients never even being seen. In some of the worse cases, such delays have resulted in death. One such example is in Phoenix, where “40 veterans died while waiting to see a doctor, 1700 were confirmed to be on a secret waiting list, and others?f average wait times were almost 4 months. Yet the hospital administrator was paid a $9,000 bonus for her 'quality outcomes'.”(Vliet 34). The source of the issue is that there are too many veterans needing medical assistance and not enough resources to manage the demand in a timely manner, which causes overcrowding in Veteran medical centers country wide.
301 Task B Case study You are a social care worker and a service user, Hannah, tells you that she is unhappy taking her new medication as she thinks she does not need it and so she is throwing it away. You know from her care plan that Hannah does need to take the medication regularly and gets confused. Hannah begs you to keep this confidential and not tell anyone especially her daughter, who she sees regularly, as her daughter will be very angry. Bi) How would you explain the term ‘confidentiality’ to Hannah? From 1914 to 1918 there were 80,000 men from the British army suffering from shell-shock (spartacusschoolnet). Many soldiers were never the same after the war because of the things they saw and the way they lived in the war, they suffered with mental breakdowns and scares for the rest of their lives
The “ … tragedies that clouded the last quarter of … “ Twain’s “ … life--bankruptcy, the death of two daughters and his wife--blackened his vision … “ but it did not stop him from achieving stardom (Jones). Mark Twain suffered many misfortunes in the later years of his life. He lost pretty much everything that he had held dearest to him. For example he lost his wife Livy and two of his daughters, Clary and Jean. Along with these losses he also suffered many financial failings.
So many people have been dying lately and we just can’t take it anymore. I’ll see what’s going on in the hospitals and find out what is killing so many people and report back to you. Wednesday February 1st, 1862: We are very low on staff and with what we have many of the “doctors” here are very inexperienced in the field. They have no idea what
Failures in Healthcare can happen for numerous reasons as in the newspaper article from the mail online “’Severe neglect’” of staff blamed for appalling deaths of five elderly care home residents in just two weeks states that Parkside House care home in Northampton was mainly set up for people aged 65 and over who were suffering and from Dementia or a long standing mental illness but was unable to manage to deal with residents who had additional needs. This failure happened because the staff may not have received basic training that would enable them to provide the residents with the basic care that they needed. It also states that some of the residents had developed severe pressure sores, Pressure sores can be caused when a person is left in the same position in bed for so long and not being turned over at regular intervals, the residents had developed severe pressure sores because the staff at the home had not used the specialist mattresses correctly.
There is one instance that stands out in my mind however, and it happened a couple of weeks ago while I was at work. My supervisor was growing more and more irritated with an older employee, and finally erupted at her when asked for help with something. She screamed at my co-worker that people who can't keep up with a job and learn faster ought to retire and leave. I don't think I will ever forget the look on my co-workers face. I felt such sadness and concern for her, but I was unsure of what to do.
Sometimes other nurses start beginning to create problems between each other by saying that they are not moving fast enough or that they are lazy. I had an elderly patient at a nursing home clinical site scratch my chest because we were trying to help her change into her clothes. The patient was angry and she was trying to hit and scratch everyone in sight. We tried to talk to her calmly and diffuse her unknown anger towards us. The patient eventually calmed down but then had to be put in wrist restraints for the violent behavior.
I tried to get up fast, but suddenly one of his friends hit me with a chair. Everything stopped; my head was spinning, and I stumbled like a drunk as I fell on the floor. I woke up the following day in the hospital, and saw my mom and dad looking at me with disappointment. After seeing my parents faces I was in more pain than before. I couldn’t get their expressions out of my mind, which seemed to say that they didn’t care it wasn’t my fault.
