Bradley Batson NT1310 Week 1 Exercise 1. Describe a local land line phone system based on the following Landline Telephone Components: A. Local Loop- The local loop is a wired connection from the local telephone company’s central office from the customers home or business. This connection is usually a pair of copper wires called twisted pair with a maximum length of three miles. B. Central Office- A central office is responsible for providing certain services to the local loop with calls, signaling. C. Local Exchange- A system of devices or switches that directs locals calls. D. POP- Point of Presence is the location or interface point of a communicating party. Exampled by internet POP like a switch or router. E. Long Distance System-The long distance system is a service of making long distance phone calls. Now is done direct, no longer by several switchboards to span to different locations. F. Fixed Line- A fixed line is also called a landline, is a telephone that is physically connected to a local loop by telephone line. 2. Define and describe the following Telecommunications Network Components: A. Voice- Voice calls are not too unlike fixed line calls; the difference being that it is transmitted wirelessly. The call is transmitted via radio waves to a cellular tower, which is then routed through the service provider and to the party on the other end. Data- Data is commonly called mobile internet. Data is sent through radio waves in either 3G or 4G connection, which streams data to and from the phone, much like a computer connects to the internet. B. Demarcation Point- it is the point that defines the end of the telephone company’s wiring, and the beginning pf your wiring, it defines where the telephone company’s responsibility for maintenance ends and your responsibility begins.
