People believed in him because they saw selflessness in his acts. He was not afraid to make his beliefs and feelings public and this led to India’s self-rule. However, just like Antigone, Gandhi also died because his actions were public. Nonetheless, neither of them chose their lives over what they thought was right and died with a clean
In Jesus teachings, he never told Christians to do all those negative actions however, it is said to be a misunderstanding. According to Mathew 5, it says, ‘Do not resist an evildoer ’. This verse has been traditionally interpreted to mean that one should be non resistant to evil. In contract with Jesus, he resisted evil in every way he could. On the other hand, the gospel teaches about being non resistance, and therefore,Christians should not practice self defense.
Megan’s Talk 7-13 Obedience I am going to start out with a scripture from D&C 93:24, 26-28. It says, “The spirit of truth is of God, and no man can receiveth the fullness unless he keepeth his commandments. He that keepeth God’s commandments recieveth truth and light, until he is glorified in truth and knoweth all things.” Our Heavenly father has given us the commandments to guide us and to protect us. Being obedient is doing God’s will. He knows what is best for us and he doesn’t want us to get hurt, so obeying His commandments will save us a lot of grief in the long run.
The ninth commandment; thou shall not covet thy neighbor’s wife is saying that you should not think impure thoughts and desires opposing to chastity. The simplest thought of impure things is not always sinful but it can be dangerous. The tenth and final commandment is; thou shall not covet thy neighbor’s goods which means that you shouldn’t take things unjustly from your neighbors. It also means that you should not envy them
Explain Moral Relativism Moral Relativism argues the claim that there are no universally valid rules for all people at all times, thus implying there are no intrinsic rights and wrongs. This results in Morality being relative to the individual, to their culture and their age group. In contrary Moral Absolutism is the antonym to the theory that morality is relative. Kant for example was not a moral relativist; he held the belief that we had ‘categorical imperatives’ which were always right. He believed as Absolutists believe today , we should be able to apply moral rules to everyone without making allowances for different people or circumstance , thus suggesting laws should be ‘universalisable’ .
This code of ethics rejects sex outside of marriage, it also states that divorce, homosexuality, and public nakedness are sins forbidden by God. On the other hand modesty and humility are vital virtues that are important to all members of the Amish community. While every Amish community has their own set of rules and certain beliefs, all Amish people are extremely religious and respectful individuals. The social organization of the Amish is one that implores pride, humility, obedience, and the yielding of oneself to a higher authority. One important principle that exemplifies these beliefs is Gelassenheit, and although it is rarely spoken its meaning is woven into the social fabric of the Amish’s everyday life.
Godly wisdom can only be held by God himself, but we can strive to educate ourselves as much as possible, thus reducing mistakes, misunderstandings, etc. that cause our followers grief. Another character trait of a great leader is complete honesty. Nothing hidden because there is no reason to hide anything. Complete openess is needed.
From in a cell, he jots down almost rebel like ideas, which is to be free from having a religion forced upon any single being. In this initial strategy of steering the emotions of the readers, Pane tells the readers “I believe in one God, and no more” (100), he exposes his stance but does not overly enforce his beliefs so the readers will not be subjected to them. I think that this is very important because if Pane did over insert his views then he would be going against his own teachings. Pane then goes on to talk about a few religions, discussing the problems he finds with them. I found this to be his main strategy of grabbing the reader’s attention and expressing his purpose to them.
Question: 2) How did the early Christians view martyrdom? What did they believe the martyrs were accomplishing, either for themselves or for others, through their persecution and death? Response: Martyrdom is the persecution and death of religious members due to the refusal to denounce their faith. Early Christians viewed martyrdom as bringing them closer to God by detaching from worldly values and the materialistic “evil” world. Martyrdom showed how dedicated the Christians were to their faith and their refusal to denounce Christianity for anything or anyone.
There is a moral to the story. People shouldn’t be judge on where they came from or where their ancestors came from. Everyone should be treated equally, because we are all the same inside. The white man is not more or less important than a black man, and vice
