Networked Systems Security Task 1 – THREATS AND IMPACT OF NETWORK THREATS There are many types of threats that can damage your computer either temporarily or permanently. Some threats posed may not threaten your computer right away however have the potential to do so. Some threats that present themselves can include physical threats such as the theft of equipment whether that is the monitor, computer etc. Other threats can be harder to find such as viruses, worms or any kind of malware. Understanding these threats allows the organisation to prevent, protect and correct any damage done to his/her computer to an extent.
Lastly, Kudler Fine Foods will also have additional software added to prevent malware. Malware is also a software program design to be disruptive and harmful to the computer. Malware can come in various forms such as a virus, spyware, and even worms. Once the virus have invaded your system, you have to purchase an antivirus to clean out your system, and that can become costly. If your computer has damaged because of the virus, you may have to purchase a new computer.
Griffin Hayes Mr. Guay English 10 Honors 11/7/14 Should Cigarette Smoking Be Banned? Meet Anna, a five year old girl who lost her father to lung cancer. Like Anna’s father, cigarette smoking is a known leading cause of lung cancer and death for about 159,260 people in the United States this year so far ("How Many People Get Lung Cancer?"). Lung cancer has caused about 27% of all cancer deaths but can be prevented if we ban the smoking of cigarettes. Cigarette smoking has caused lung cancer to many smokers and even non-smokers.
On Thursday December 10, 2010, the U.S Department of Health and Human Services, released an informative example of their goals for the year 2020. What is interesting to note is that the leading cause of death among Americans (Heart disease) is preventable! The healthy People HHS secretary Kathleen Sebelius said in the December 2010 press release, that “Our challenge and opportunity is to avoid preventable diseases from occurring in the first place.”(HSH). According to this same press release, the Healthy People group has managed to meet or exceed seventy percent of the original Healthy People targets. For example, the 2010 focused goals according to Healthy People 2010 archive are cancer, disability and secondary conditions, and food safety.
Native Americans used tobacco for religious and medical reasons, they did not use it everyday. Tobacco was the first crop grown for money in North America by the 1800s. Many people started using tobacco on the average, 40 cigarettes were smoked a year. The opposing side may say cigarettes can keep a person relaxed from stress but it’s really harming to the human body, smoking tobacco causes disease and lung cancer. It has been the most deadliest drug for years.

That's because smoking is a major cause of coronary artery disease, especially in younger people. Smokers are more likely to get cancer than non-smokers. This is particularly true of lung cancer, throat cancer and mouth cancer, which hardly ever affect non-smokers. The more cigarettes you smoke in a day, and the longer you have smoked, the higher your risk of lung cancer.
Banning the Use of Cigarettes The ban of cigarettes is an ongoing debate in many states. There are currently 25 states and DC that have smoke free laws ("25"). Cigarettes are one of the top killers in the United States and all over the world. Just in the 21st century alone there have been 1 billion deaths due to cigarettes (“Tobacco”). Cigarettes are also one of the top purchased items in the world.
But the thought of making the production and sale of cigarettes illegal is a more recent belief. I have come to this conclusion because I do not believe that people will stop using cigarettes just because of the health risks that are well publicized and well known. Some of these statistics are given in a very bold way by the National Institute on Drug Abuse: “Tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of disease, disability, and death in the United States. Between 1964 and 2004, cigarette smoking caused an estimated 12 million deaths, including 4.1 million deaths from cancer, 5.5 million deaths from cardiovascular diseases, 1.1 million deaths from respiratory diseases, and 94,000 infant deaths related to mothers smoking during pregnancy.1 According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), cigarette smoking results in more than 443,000 deaths in the United States each year – about one in every five U.S. Deaths – and an additional 8.6 million people suffer with a serious illness caused by smoking.
That is more deaths than the combined total for HIV, illegal drug use, alcohol use, motor vehicle injuries, suicides, and murders. The American Cancer Society’s chairman John R. Seffrin said, “The most preventable cause of death in our society is tobacco.” According to the World Health Organization, cancers are the first killers of human beings, and 70% of cancers are related to lung cancer caused by smoking cigarettes. In America, 23.1% of men, which is 24.8 million, are smokers, and 18.3% of women, which is 21.1 million, are smokers. Over one billion people smoke cigarettes regularly. In the world, 5.4 million people died of smoking cigarettes in 2010.
