Entrepreneurial Leadership: Five Guys Burgers: America's Fastest Growing Restaurant Chain Edward S. Bye Strayer University Contemporary Business Business 508 Dr. Hammad Elbedour October 21, 2013 Five Guys Burgers: America's Fastest Growing Restaurant Chain Background Experiencing turmoil during his childhood because of an absentee father, and after divorcing and remarrying, Jerry Murrell was motivated to start a family business which would keep his family close. His motivation was further enhanced when he and his wife challenged their sons to either start a business or go to college and the sons voted for starting a business. Murrell’s desire to have his family live nearby was successful, as he, his wife and all five sons not only live within 20 minutes of one another, but they all vacation together every summer, and all work for Five Guys. The five guys all found a way to work within their passions. Jim, 45, the oldest son, came up with the idea to franchise the privately owned company.
For my research paper I chose to focus on Lil Wayne. I admire him because he is hard working and he has gone through a lot to achieve his American dream and he never gave up on it. Lil Wayne's American dream was to have a better life for himself and move his family out of the ghetto. He had been trying to do that since he was young and then he finally got discovered at the age of 13 by Birdman who was a well-known local producer. He took Lil Wayne to the top and even though he had to drop out of high school it was wroth it because he is now worth over 24 Million dollars.
Please describe in detail the adversities you indicated in Section 4. If your adversity is strictly financial need, please describe how your financial situation has been an obstacle in your life. Include what you have done to overcome and cope with these obstacles. (250-350 words) The life my parents have provided for me has always been a good life that I have no right to complain about. Descending from difficult households, both my parents moved from Mexico to the United States in hopes to build better lives for my brother and I.
The use of cows to put their restaurant out on the market was a success. In 1995 the first cow was used on a billboard with the words “EAT MOR CHIKIN” From that day forward, the burger-eating landscape would forever be changed (Chick-Fil-A, 2011).” With their message on television, radio and internet it has reached millions. Part of their recipe for success is closing on Sundays. This decision was made back in 1946 when the company was first established; Mr. Cathy believed that employees should have time with their families and worship if they chose to do so. These kinds of strategies sets them apart from other restaurants, in 2010 the company’s system wide sales reached $3.5
Sam traveled with his aunt in 1892. He was to establish himself and send for others- mothers, siblings.” (Cohen 12). Like many people, America was the way to help stabilize and create a better living for his family. He goes on to say, “By eighteen, he had saved enough to send for his brothers and sisters […]” (Cohen 15). This was common, as most families could not afford to send everybody at once.
I also chose Ford because of the impact he had on our country through different inventions, ways of thinking and incredible contributions to help others. Henry Ford was born in Greenfield, Michigan on July 30, 1863. His beginnings were humble, he was the son of a farmer. Ford dropped out of school at 15 to help with the family farm, but that didn’t mean he liked doing farm work. In 1879 he moved to Detroit to become an apprentice in a machine shop.
This is the first thing you get as soon as you become an American. That for me is considered a dream for the persecuted. Now beyond this lies desire, which is what society thrives from because it is what our economy is based off of. It is said that you only need food, shelter, and clothing. Dreaming is what America is all about; the beautiful houses, the wealth, the power to control things at your fingertips.
At the age of 14 Rockefeller and his family moved to Ohio, Cleveland. Starting out in his young days, Rockefeller’s first job was that of a bookkeeper at the age of 16 with a pay of four dollars per week. Even though Rockefeller could have gotten a better job but he said that he only worked as a bookkeeper to gain “business experience.” Along with his work, he also attended Church regularly, and the main reason for this was because his mother Eliza, raised her five children including John just like how she was; in a religious, disciplined and frugal manner. (p.43-48, Sanford) We all know that with fame come loads of controversies, defamation and allegations. Rockefeller was no different.

Others believe the American dream is to succeed and to get an education. Most people in America take advantage of the opportunities given to them. They don’t realize the struggle that other countries face and the limited opportunities they receive. Richard Wright, Dinesh D’Souza, and Judith Cofer realize how different things are in America compared to their lifestyle and culture, and tell about how it impacted their lives.
A person could earn as much and much more than a college grad by not attending college. My fathers’ friend who dropped out of high school at age sixteen ended up working at McDonalds and decided to stay there for a few years. As time went by he ended becoming supervisor, assistant manager, manager and at the end he ended up buying his own McDonalds. Now he makes a six figure salary. All students should be encouraged to attend because at the end of everything college is the smart way to go.
