Jessica Ruprich Renee Watters ENC 1101 1 April 2014 Cellphones Cellphones, I hate to love them. Just about everyone now carries around a cellphone. There are many conveniences to a cellphone but there are negatives that people need to realize to. Cellphones are just so far advanced now than they were 10 years ago. They inhibit us from doing a lot of everyday tasks. Think about how many people are in an accident because of them or how our writing skills are becoming abbreviated with a side of emoji’s. Think back to 1995 and try to imagine the cellphones. I bet you don’t see a touch screen or Siri. Back then phones were bricks and they had long antennas. One might say they look at lot like todays cordless phone. They didn’t do hardly anything but provide you a way to call someone and store a contact. Fast forwarding to the year 2000 the birth of the first touch screen, it was very simple just a black and white screen but it was definitely a hit. Now to 2003 the first “clam shell” design was born. No longer were we tied to one screen. 2007 the first IPhone was introduced. Now let’s skip 7 years to 2014, it’s a phone, a GPS, a radio, a web browser, and much more! The best part is it fits right into our pocket. With all of the things that have change since 1995 we are so lucky. Now you can store contacts, text, play games, use Facebook, surf the web, and much more. With all of the conveniences that we have today with our phone, which sure are nice, but there are some down falls. It’s really easy to get someone a quick message by sending a text, but the impact that texting has played on our ability to convey emotions and write a paper is seriously hurtful to society. Now days you just can’t type a message to someone without using Emoji’s or abbreviations. How funny does it look when someone writes a paper and you see lol, jk, wryd, or a smiley face?
