The thick willow scrub along the river flamed with sharp and positive yellow leaves. It was a time of quiet and of waiting. The air was cold and tender. A light wind blew up from the southwest so that the farmers were mildly hopeful of a good rain before long; but fog and rain do not go together.
This can make drivers stressed and the condtions make it dangrous. Summer driving is less stressful and overall safer. For some, driving in the winter is as easy as driving in the summer but, for others winter driving is terrifying. If you happen to live far north like i do, where the average snowfall is more than 200 inches a year, driving in the snow is normal. However for someone that has moved from a location that never gets snow to a location that gets large amounts, it can be difficult.
What might have happened if the lightning had struck a healthy oak instead? After two months of little rain, and days and days of temperatures in the 90's, the meadow grasses were dry and cracked. The coming rain would have alleviated the dryness and made the valley less susceptible to a fire. Moisture and wind can determine whether a forest fire will break out or will not break out. A bolt of lightning struck a pitch pine which 2 was on the valley's upwind edge.
In Portland, the climate is considered mild. In the fall, you can expect large amounts of rain and highs in the range of 50-60 degrees. In the winter, it cools down and the rain may be interrupted by a few blustery snow showers, effectively shutting the city down and making commutes a nightmare during the wintry storms. As spring rolls into summer, the skies clear and the sun comes out. With the additional warmth, the landscape comes alive with flowers and everything is bursting with color.
Brian noticed that “there were tall pines, the kind with no limbs until very close to the top, with a gentle breeze sighing in them, but not too much low brush” and two hundred yards up there seemed to be a belt of thick, lower brush starting—about ten or twelve feet high—and that formed a wall he could not see through. It seemed to go on around the lake, thick and lushly green.” Other than studying the place they were going to travel they also had concerns, worry, and fear during their conflict with nature. In the beginning of Clay’s journey when “he sat down and looked at the treacherous snow-covered slope” he thought to himself that “It was manifestly impossible for him to make it with a whole body, and he did not wish to arrive at the bottom shattered like the pine tree.” Brian’s worries during his journey were that “He didn't want to be anywhere in the woods when it came to be dark. And he didn't want to get lost.” The differences between the stories are how the characters react with nature which depends on the character’s personality and background and the historical period in which the conflict takes place. Clay lives in the 1800s and Brian lives in the twentieth century.
We didn’t talk, we just sat in silence taking in the moment. I truly believe in that very moment as the sun went down, our hearts started to beat as one and I knew he was the one. We decided to make our way back down the mountain and the wind became stronger sending all the leaves in the air. As I watched the leaves fall into place, I thought to myself; this must be a metaphor that my life is finally falling into
The tree leaves start to change their color. Green’s turn to brilliant purples, reds, oranges, and yellows, a canvas of its own. If I could I would just sit there and watch it for days. When the snow comes it leaves beautiful untouched icicles hanging on the empty limbs of trees. A picture perfect beauty.
It can survive frosted soil and is partial to loose soil, but adapts in otherwise less favorable conditions. This is especially apparent in the PH of the soil. Kudzu survives ph in soil that registers from
The grassy knoll was an open grassy area approximately 20 m by 40 m in size, on a slight west-facing slope directly outside the science building. The grassy flats site was fairly dry, due to lack of precipitation and time of day. Both grassy areas are very well maintained and are subject to some foot traffic on a regular basis. The arboretum north site was a hilly, with a man made trail, forested area toward the north end of an approximately 150 m by 75 m arboretum on campus, which is thirty-six years old and dominated by Pine, Oak, and Hardwood trees. The arboretum north site did not have clearly defined boundaries on all sides, but all measurements were taken within 10 m of one another.
Alex Benn's 'Dont get me started' Strolling down that desolate road on a mid-november's morning. The golden leaves drift down to be engulfed by the psychedelic mists. Many would consider this setting a peaceful retreat, an escape from the reality of everyday life. Unfortunately, i simply cannot share this same enthusiasm, due to the fact that this picturesque walk holds a dark, sombre truth right as you so dare walk around that corner. Now the loud chugs and splutters of all types of pollutants are yours to endure, as you will now wait at the side of the road for at least half an hour to embrace possibly the most dreary spectacle known to man-kind... the approaching bus.
