Narrative In The Male Solo Artist

A2 Media Studies on Narrative Narrative in the Male solo artist. Conventions of narrative in some male solo artist are shown in their music and their music videos through out their career. However, some people may argue that their music is influence by other external elements such as target audience, perceived image (what people expect them to be) and their record label telling them what to write as some examples. To try to see if my hypothesis , (Narrative in the Male solo artist), is correct, or not, I am going to look at 3 male solo artist. These 3 are, Robbie William, Michael Bublé and Usher. My reasoning on this is because they are all similar in that they are all successful solo artists, but all differ in some way. For example, Robbie Williams and Michael Bublé have both different target audiences to Usher. Also, Usher is an American and Michael Bublé is Canadian so all have different cultural beliefs and upbringings to one another. To try and find an outcome to my hypothesis, (Narrative in the Male solo artist) I need to look at music videos from all 3 of the artist. The music videos I’m going to look at ‘Rock DJ’ by Robbie Williams, ‘Haven’t met you yet’ by Michael Bublé and ‘Burn’ by Usher. This is because I feel that these videos could show key a possible key part of their life, and show element of narrative. I will also look at other relevant videos accordingly. The first video I looked at was Robbie Williams’s Rock DJ video. Relished in the summer of 2000 from the Ablbum ‘Rock DJ and inspired by his UNICEF mentor Ian Dury. The song sold over 600,00 copies in the UK alone therefore went Platinum by the BPI. It also won “Best song of 2000” on the MTV European music awards and the “Best single of the year” at the Brit awards.
