Daniel Rodriguez Napoleon Dynamite Essay Elements of Literature are the base of great stories. Without these cornerstones, the stories would not sound complete. One such story that has great examples of Elements of Literature is Napoleon Dynamite. Three of the major Elements of Literature are Conflict, Foreshadowing, and Irony. Someone might think that these three elements are what make this story great. In order for any story to be a real story there should be some sort of conflict. The major conflict in Napoleon Dynamite is that the society will not accept him. Some might say that the conflict is Man versus Society. From the very beginning, Napoleon never fit in, he was always alone. As the story progressed, he grew by starting to make friends and deciding to start doing things for those friends. After this point, he begins to fit in more and is never alone. Someone could say that at the beginning, he was somewhat selfish and did not care much about others, but towards the end, he became self less and was doing things for others, which led him to have good friends. In any story there is foreshadowing, which keeps the reader engaged in the story. There are a few examples of foreshadowing in Napoleon Dynamite. One example is that throughout the whole story there is this talk about Napoleon not having any real skills and he needs to have one. At the end of the story, the whole high school sees his big skill, which is that he can dance very well. One might say that during the whole story, one is always hearing this talk about having a great skill and finally at the end one sees the reason for all of the talk of skill. Irony is a key element in any story, because of the fact that it can add some humor to the story. An example of irony in Napoleon Dynamite is that uncle Rico thinks he is good at football.
