General Introduction The course Cooperative Nursing Work Experience has allowed me to grow as a nurse by tying everything I’ve learned from the RN-BSN courses together. While journaling I was able to reflect on my goals while utilizing what I learned from professional nursing, holistic care, nursing research, health promotion and leadership & management. All of these subjects are essential in everyday nursing. In addition, my professional skills, leadership skills and critical thinking skills have been greatly enhanced due to this course.
As I reflect over my three goals, you will understand how each goal has helped me to become a more competent nurse, a better leader and a better advocate for my patient’s. In agreement with Barnes (2010), “Reflection after a clinical day gives students a greater insight into their feelings, and in essence gives them more confidence so they can continue on with their clinical experience.” Before my co-op experience, I felt that my behaviors, skills and attitudes were excellent, but after reflecting upon each shift, I found many aspects in nursing that I could improve on. Due to my experience in the course, I provide more thorough assessments, I utilize EBP more often, and I reflect upon my strengths and weaknesses and what areas need improvement. I have also become a more outspoken nurse and participate in different leadership roles. One thing I’ve learned from reflecting is that you find many things that could use improvement and it’s up to the nurse to initiate those changes in order to improve patient outcomes and
