I have many personal goals at home that I am trying to maintain. One is to maintain my sanity while going through school and trying to balance everyone and everything in my life. Taking one day at a time will be helpful in achieving balance in my life. Getting some exercise, staying healthy, and my family supporting me will be encouraging. One of my long-term personal goals is to bring up my children as functional happy adults.
I chose this course to develop my awareness of counselling and the techniques that are required. I wanted to see if I had the correct skills and knowledge, to offer a variety of counselling skills to my work colleagues or the students that I work with. Before the course I would have said that I had a lot of good qualities that are essential in counselling. Some of my strengths are that I am not judgemental, I can support unconditionally, I am a good listener and I am very attentive. Reflecting over the past weeks and assessing the impact of this course, I am now more aware that Counselling can help in a number of different ways.
The three time management strategies I previously wanted to incorporate into my life were goal setting, prioritization, and managing interruptions. I am very proud to say I have stuck to my strategies. My intention for goal setting was to set small and manageable goals instead of overall goals that might seem intimidating. Instead of focusing on passing this class as a whole, I set weekly goals to do my best and learn from any feedback that was given. This allowed me to put my best foot forward each and every step of the way and made the class more exciting.
Although they were busy working every day , they always are trying to spend time with me, asking about school ,friends, helping me to make decisions in different problems, and how to solve them. Now I really appreciate their help because without their advices I couldn’t achieve my goals in life. Another reason staying close with your child is important because you give them the most valuable thing you own. Supporting that I can explain to be happy in life it is not easy, so through your parents you can learn not to give up , how to be patience, how to take stuff easy and a lot more. So if you have the opportunity stay close with your child at least half hour a day, have attention and interest ,make jokes and humor with them considering as friend because they will grow
Since I’m an ESL speaker, this is definitively enriching me but at the same time stretching and challenging me to grow. I’m also aware that this is one of the areas that I have to constantly keep improving. I’m also starting to pay attention to myself in the ways that I can possible react to some situations that I will face, when time comes for me to be at the other side of the mirror. I’m starting to assess myself and be reflective in what type of situations and conflicts could I possible cause personal reaction towards client and interfere in their treatment. Self-assessment will be one of my goals before I finish
I want my employees under me to be able to learn from me and how I work and deal with situations in the work field. If I learn more about my learning skills I will be able to improve myself as well as the people who work around me. Usually in a work environment people usually follow by example and if I am doing what I am suppose to do then the people under me follow suit. My personal learning style influences my career competencies' more than what I thought. So I found out I need to become more of a thinker and work on my analytical skills.
I believe in people, but I also believe in structure and clearly outlined expectations. While I do believe that any successful organization is built on the people who work within it, a leader needs to be able to provide boundaries and task-oriented structure. For example, one of the questions that determined my P – or people – score was “I would turn the members loose on the job and let them go for it” (Daft, 2011). Though I do believe in empowering employees to be able to act independently, “turning members loose” seems to be a bit reckless. A leader who does that is not empowering their employees with the structure and tools necessary to be successful.
The meaning of going to school for me is to study your interest and something you can see your self doing years from now. Knowledge is something that I have always wish to gain because it gives you power. I always like to stay committed to whatever I am doing. My reasons for going to school are to help me and my family in the future and improve our lives. Helping others I feel is party of my personality.
Making personal sacrifices for my children happen on a daily basis, but also remind me of the reason I became a parent in the first place. Keeping an open mind which has helped me to survive is important. To illustrate, times are different now opposed to when I was a child. I have to know where my children are coming from, so I can help them make hard decisions. In addition, I have had to organize my life around my children, so that I could always be there to help them with their homework, attend all of their extracurricular activities, or just have a willingness to listen.
Writing a mission statement was one of the best things I’ve done for myself in awhile. I plan to use that everyday in my future and i believe it can guide me to live my life for me, not anyone else. I think habit 2 will better me both in my school and personal life because it taught me how to separate every aspect in my life and set time for each thing I’m juggling. It also was an eye opener when we did the baby steps for this habit because it make me write down my crossroads I was currently facing and forced me to take a deeper insight to them and I figured some things out that I was struggling with. Next year, I will become a sophomore student and my dream is a pharmacist.
