Keeper’n Me is basically a warm, happy story showing that family and elders are waiting to teach and heal those who have been denied knowledge of their heritage. The most significant person in Garnet’s life, except for his mother, is Keeper, a one-time protege of Garnet’s grandfather. Keeper, too, is seeking healing since he did not avail himself of the teaching offered him in his younger years. He is given a second chance when he helps his mentor’s grandson. As a stranger to reserve life, Garnet Raven had much to learn.
By viewing the film, we learn that the family structure in Tre’s family is the parents are separated, and they have one son. At the beginning of the film, Tre is living with his mother, Reva. After getting into an incident at school, Tre is sent to live with his father, Furious Styles. Throughout the film we see that although separated, Tre’s parents are still civil with one another and still keep in contact and make decisions together regarding Tre. Furious believes that Tre needs to learn “how to be a man”, and needs a strong father figure in his life in order to teach him responsibility, he tells Tre that he wants him to have a good life so he does not end up like the others.
Antwone’s mother was young and incarcerated at the time of his birth, but even with her age, Antwone’s mother wanted her child to be taken care of. Even though she was not able to provide care herself for Antwone, it was important to her as a mother to make sure her child would live a better life. This showed strength within his mother that she wanted what was best for Antwone. Antwone’s mother, Eva Mae, visited Antwone few times once he was removed from her custody, but later discontinued the visits. Later in life when Antwone met his mother, she was barely able to speak to him, because of the similarities between Antwone and his father.
The kids are bounced from home to home and never find a permanent place to stay. The older kids are offered education and resources to prepare for a transition on living on their own. Children in foster homes face many struggles. They usually blame themselves for being in foster care and sometimes wish to return to the parents, even if the parents abused them or the kid was neglected. Taquann felt helpless and abandoned by his mom.
Once he came home from the rehab facility my girlfriend helped take care of him while I was at work. She helped in every way she could and one of my dad’s last wishes was that I merry her because of what she had did for him. She is now my ex-wife but I will never forget how much she cared for me and my dad at our time of need. My dad Frank J Anderson in my opinion was the greatest man that ever lived. He was a hard worker, a provider, a teacher, and a father.
Most don’t understand what their parents work for. Or why their parents even go to work. “For what?” Is it because the parents like to work? Do parents work to stay away from home? Are the parents explaining to the child why they have to work, and will the children picture what the parents try to show them?
(p.285) Childhood upbringing and structured life has a huge impact on one lifestyle and behavior as an adult. The situations we grow through as a child develop our character. In Sonny Blue’s the two brothers experienced a lot of struggles throughout their childhood which impacted their life. The two brothers lost their parents at different times the oldest brother was tasked with looking out for the younger sibling while the younger sibling was hurt and felt alone without his parents but in the end the two brothers only had each other. And I had a lot of things on my mind and I pretty well forgot my promise to mama until I got shipped home on a special furlough for her funeral.
Christa Ferrari 9/3/10 As a child I was raised by a single mother and grew up with my three siblings. My mother struggled to provide for my three siblings and me. We were constantly forced to move around due to the different jobs my mother worked. I transferred from school to school and was unable to build any substantial relationships with my peers. Twice I moved in with my father but each time was no longer than six months because of my father’s alcoholism.
I love my mother a lot, she is my best friend but I feel like I cannot help her. Clinician (Dardree): What is the relationship between you and your siblings? Marla: I do not have siblings, I am an only child. Clinician (Dardree): Please tell me what you remember most about your household/family from your childhood. Marla: All I remember from my childhood is hearing my mother yelling through the walls that I shared with them, or seeing her with a black eye or broken arm and not being able to take care of me; while my father takes off for couple of days or a week.
