My journey to becoming a Barber Shop Owner Twaisa Gibbs Everest College May 18, 2013 Road to becoming a Barber Shop Owner Owning a Barber Shop is not a career of choice for most women, considering it is an industry that caters to mainly men. Breaking into this field may seem heard for most women. It is a profound bearer that can be overcome. With the right amount of training and education it can be succeeded. (Gaebler, 2013) Barbering is something that I have found to be very interesting. There is nothing more attractive to me than a man or young man with a nice haircut. With this passion of mine I have decided to become a Barber shop owner. Most, people think that just because you like to see a male with a fresh haircut and nicely trimmed beard that is no reason to go into the business. Being a mother of three boys myself, I have found that the whole Barbershop experience is kind of offensive to women, at least in the African American community, and that is something that I want to change. I also know the advantages of a women’s touch. I would like to own and run my own Barber shop. I would like to be involved with the day to day operations that accrue with the running of the business. Everything from greeting the clients to overseeing a haircut or a razor shaves. To handling the ordering of the supplies that the barbers may need to sweeping and mopping the floor. I want to do it this way because this is an industry and a business that I am passionate about, so I want it to reflect in our day to day affairs. The educational requirements to owning a Barber shop are rather simple. None. I don’t really have to have any managemt experience, but it is a plus. Nor do I personally have to have barbering experience or a barbering license, as long as I employee master barbers in the shop. By me obtaining my degree in business it will give me a
