Overall a trip to the beach can be a calming getaway from the stress and the everyday pressures of life. The many sounds of the beach can be quite calming. Being at Panama City Beach can make you forget about your home town or city. The beach can make you forget about your troubles you have at home with your love ones. Also the ocean is so beautiful and unforgettable.
Sylvia Plath uses nature and the world as a foundation for several of her poems. She grew up with her family living by the sea which she admired for its beauty and power. However, though she admired the sea whilst she was growing up, Plath often depicts nature and the sea as threatening and compelling. Contrastingly, though, in some ways Plath portrays nature and the sea as a sign of hope and sympathy. The natural world provokes many different feelings for Plath, which can be explored in many of her poems.
Demetrius Cameron Gordwin 07/25/2008 Rogue Waves Since the first ship set sail on the deep blue sea there has been many stories and myths. Stories of pirates and their treasures and monsters that live in the deepest parts of the ocean. There were even tales of waves that were so high that they could swallow a ship and destroy it in a matter of minutes. They called them freak waves or massive waves. But like all old stories and myths, for centuries the idea of such a thing was only a folklore.
The lack of food, power, and heat affected absolutely everyone emotionally and physically, causing the sociology of disaster. It changed everyone’s daily routines and everyday life, including mine. Living in the United States for the first time in my life was probably the biggest adjustment I’ve ever had to undergo. I’ve lived on the small island of St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands my entire life. It was hard enough moving thousands of miles away from my home, but being a part of a place that was completely destroyed by a hurricane was beyond my wildest predictions of being here.
The bombardment was barely effective. Due to the weather, bombardiers dropped their cargo up to three miles too far inland. High seas swamped landing craft, and surviving infantry were seasick and unsteady. Over half of the amphibious tanks sank, due to heavy seas. Heavy winds and unfavorable currents blew landing craft off course, away from the protection of destroyer artillery.
Ike was a huge economic burden to the U.S. and “estimates suggest Ike may become one of the costliest hurricanes on record” (FEMA 10). Hurricanes are known for causing severe structural damage to houses, but also have an effect on many businesses as well. Many people had to evacuate and be out of work for up to two weeks due to power outage and debris. Also, some businesses were damaged by flooding and wind, which caused the loss of crucial business equipment. Businesses were flooded along the Texas coast and lost all of their vital technology such as computers, telephones, and other office equipment.
How many souls perish in its tumult! But the voice of the sea is seductive; never ceasing, whispering, clamoring, murmuring, inviting the soul to wander for a spell in abysses of solitude; to lose itself in mazes of inward contemplation. The voice of the sea speaks to the soul. The touch of the sea is sensuous, enfolding the body in its soft, close embrace” (Chopin 544). The sea is a constant presence in Edna’s life¾ it is always near her yet at the same time it is also new to her.
This photograph reminds me of where I live by the beach and it is very calming. I think that this picture portrays a message to me by the lighthouse has a direct correlation with the ocean and boats and that has been a big part in my life. Also I took this picture so I can recall the day and how calming the crashing waves by the beach were on a hot summer day. I think that the calming sensation of the ocean people may get from a picture of the light house but I don’t think that most people will get the memories I get when I see the lighthouse right by the
