Richard Rodriguez’s passage reveals his attitude towards his family and himself. He uses figurative language to describe his Christmas. He uses selection of detail and tone to express his view. While growing, the living conditions were poor, yet his mother never doubted that her children would become successful and wealthy. Rodriguez remembers hearing her predict the future and the presents they would one day purchase for their old parents.
Every year late in November, Americans celebrate Thanksgiving; a holiday which one is thankful for the house they live in, clothes on their back, food on their plate and family who love them dearly. However, this famous holiday which only happens once a year started over four-thousand years ago with the Indians and Pilgrims. Most of us remember learning about Thanksgiving in grade school; the Pilgrims and Indians sitting down together enjoying a big feast and giving thanks for everything they had. However, in August 1620 before America was a colony, the Pilgrims set sail to find land for the New World landing in Plymouth, near Cape Cod. The Pilgrims had made it to the Massachusetts Bay!
Every year I was involved in Dream Makers where we bought toys for underprivileged kids during Christmas. During Thanksgiving I collected and sorted food for Food for Families. The biggest event that most of the community was involved in would have been Relay for Life; everyone would join together as a community and volunteer. Here at Texas A&M I am not currently involved. I am researching organizations that I would like to join next semester and plan on joining at least
Christmas is her favorite holiday because loved ones gather up and exchange presents. She has 4 children. Rodrigo being the oldest is 18, followed by Ana, me, which I am 15. Yulma is the third child and is 11. Juan follows Yulma and he is 8.
They then started giving him food and other thing to eat. Patricia asked her mom if they could take him home but her mom said no at first. They took him in and named him Santa Paw because he always saved people around Christmas Time. Many years had passed and Santa Paw had been a hero in his community. He was saving peoples lives and had many great adventures and experiences.
I watched Star Wars with my brother -Dave- for the first time one Christmas and from then on we were both hooked. Star Wars on telly at Christmas became our tradition. It was the only thing that was predictable and good; amongst the instability of our family home. It enabled us to escape into our imaginations and to dream about ‘how great life would be’, if the imagination became a reality. Even thinking about Star Wars
Colten Barrett Comp II 9/5/2012 Dr. Smith Thanksgiving Dinner Thanksgiving is a holiday filled with feasting, joy, bonding and memories. My family along with millions of other American families every year, come together to celebrate everything that we have been grateful for throughout the year. We celebrate by feasting on some of our most savored dishes; some dishes happen to be a family tradition and are served at every Thanksgiving. Every year my family celebrates Thanksgiving at my grandma and grandpa’s house. By the time every one gets to Grandma’s house, the house is already filling up with fabulous smells of pie, meat, and other wonderful foods and to top it off the smell of fresh cut grass blowing in for the opened windows throughout the house.
Thanksgiving has been a ritual in which Americans come together and celebrate. Thanksgiving ritual comes from the original 1621 harvest meal, puritans and Native Indians originated together by giving thanks for their great harvest. Since then, Americans have continued the ritual of having dinner and giving thanks for their success throughout the year. Thanksgiving has become a ritual of gathering with family and friends feasting on a meal by giving thanks for our prosperity. People have the ritual of watching football, having dinner and family gatherings.
We gather around, eating, opening gifts, talking and laughing. It may seem so simple, but I am always anxious for each upcoming holiday or celebration, because I cannot wait to spend the quality time with those I love. Saturdays were my favorite day of the week when I was growing up. Somehow, they had become my mom, sister, grandmom and my special day
On Holiday’s we also go to church like 3 - 4 times in that week. It all depends on Holiday. Although the best part of the Holiday season is the food. It’s always so good, especially Christmas, where my mother makes Pierogi, they are so good. They are the best Pierogi because the recipe has been passed down from my great grandmother, to my grandmother, to my mom, and I am hoping one day it will be passed on to
