I mean, sure, grades are very motivational, but they are also very harming. Countless suicides are caused by grades and pressure, and I think it just really isn’t necessary to put a student on the spot like that. Let’s say a student makes straight A’s. That’s great in most cases, but does it really self-motivate the student into learning more, or does it give them a little lee-way to slack off and maybe not study as much? Or let’s say that a student gets straight C’s.
What can be done to ensure that the arts are a component in the project? I think that the project approach should the interest of the children. It keeps them interested and the opportunity for growth development curiosity and wanting to learn creativity. The arts can be ensured by including work that will allow children to do project based on what they learned. 3.
Most students try to avoid being lectured or get in trouble for something they can avoid. This is definitely extrinsic motivation that in turn create intrinsic motivation. Also, being able to see others students succeed around them can also motivate. If I don't care about my homework but I see that my friends do, I might be more likely to start caring about it
In fact there is rare evidence that the opposite is true. However, this does not seem so important for 2 reasons. First, no one is really doing anything huge about it besides, some schools have already started to encourage educators who are musicians but to do not teach music at their schools, to volunteer their time to guide students to becoming involved with music and art. Secondly, much of the research which encompasses a different viewpoint than the creative arts is more useful than math, seems to lean more towards drawing a connection between the creative arts and other subjects, showing that the creative arts do make students smarter but that it is still more important to be good in all other subjects as well. The article titled , “Does Music Make You Smarter?”, which was published in Music Educators Journal brings up some important information regarding the problem.
Art is another significant subject in this novel. The students at Hailsham gain a sense of identity through art. It is said in the novel that the art created by the children could reveal their souls. There is a sense that Hailsham students create art in order to make their identities discernible. Students try to hold on to a sense of individuality through small collections and their ability to create beautiful and meaningful pieces of artwork.
Making it on your own At times people tend to work well while they are under pressure. To others they simply must be under pressure to get work done and give their full effort. In her article In Praise of the F Word, Mary Sherry argues “Flunking as a regular policy has just as much merit today as it did two generations ago. We must review the threat of flunking and see it as it really is- a positive teaching too.” By making it clear to students that flunking can definitely be a result of them not putting in the time and effort in assuring they pass their class will make them more determined to learn and earn their good grades, it will also help stop those students who choose not to even try in their classes. Students will be less focused in school, and less likely to continue their educations, if they dread going to school each day. Including art and music in he curriculum will motivate students, and will inspire them to enjoy school. It will also give them a creative outlet. Many young people have trouble expressing their emotions in words, but find that the can communicate their ideas through music and art. Giving students an opportunity to create every day will keep them engaged in learning, keep frustration at bay, and lead to happier, more fulfilled children.
At the elementary level, we are shaping how students feel about themselves which can affect them the rest of their lives. At the high school level, we have the opportunity to truly inspire and make a child feel as if someone believes in them. While teachers can do so many positive things with this power, they can also do much harm (as Dr. Wayson spoke on). I really enjoyed this section of his talk, however, my one critique is that I felt Dr. Wayson didn’t practice what he was preaching here. Perhaps he was leading by an alternate example or giving examples of what not to do, but I felt that Dr. Wayson picked on many of the members of the class.
Much of the stress that we all experience is helpful and stimulating. The challenges of life tend to be stressful and an attempt to avoid stress completely would lead to a rather boring existence. The problem comes when students experience too much stress. Students need to be prepared for what they will face in the Rockville Campus. For instance, a lot of work will be given, students will be required to finish assignment on the due dates no matter any situation that student are going through.
The students that truly want to be a part of a sport would strive for the opportunity to be on the team. An individual can argue that not all students are great in academics so therefore those students will not have the opportunity to play sports. That statement is not true. The standard is being set to allow students to do their best and sometimes their best is a “C”; that is acceptable. At that time this will give room of improvement with tutors and other resources that will allow the students to achieve higher grades.
