I was greeted with a smile and politely asked if I was dining alone or awaiting a party. The only difficulty I faced, was trying to understand the greeter’s accent. I found this greeting very interesting because I had my girlfriend on the way and seating arrangements could be made prior to her arrival. The host asked me if I would like to leave a name and they would direct her to my table when she arrived. That provided me with a peace of mind of looking up every time for her coming in the restaurant and having to navigate her to our table.
Even when the Gross Domestic Product of the two places is almost the same, I felt people in Dubai were more extravagant. Soon after, I walked pass the McDonald and the thought that it doesn’t offer vegetarian meals popped up in my mind. This made me recall my visit to the Unites States where I observed a similar situation. I remembered my vegetarian colleagues there who had a tough time in managing their everyday meal. At the same time I starting thinking of the time that I am going to have in Singapore as I am a diehard foodie and I had heard that Singapore is a paradise for foodies.
I know that if you eat too much acidic food than you can get wicked bad heart burn to the point it feels like your heart is on fire. I do feel pressure to improve my Spanish because in our culture we often have these huge gatherings where our distant relatives get together and I can barely communicate with them. I am more into the food in my culture. I could eat Cuban food everyday if possible; I love beans and rice, pork, and plantains. I feel like I’ve been eating that type of food since I was a baby, my sister’s dislike any type of Spanish food and opt for cheeseburgers. Although I eat like a Cuban I don’t particularly identify myself as one.
I believed that it is actually practiced in a lot of places. I believe in the saying that if you treat your employees right than they will make sure the customers are happy and will return to that business. When a customer receives bad service nine times out of ten they do not return. This means that they also tell their family and friends not to visit this company because of the bad service and/or food. When I go to a place to spend my money, I like good customer services as well as good food.
My mother, who is of Cambodian descent, used to tell me stories of what it was like to be an immigrant in the diverse world of America. One specific story I can recall is when she went to a restaurant in America for the very first time, and she ordered a steak. The waiter then asked if she wanted it rare, medium, or well done.
