There is very little of China’s culture is told to the American people. We don't know the great and rich history of the Chinese people. We only get and believe what certain companies, like Disney’s Mulan. The story of Lin Lan is the Chinese version of Cinderella. I choose the Chinese version because I thought it was the version that retained most of the elements I think of when I think of “Cinderella”, although altered quite a bit. Such as the wicked stepmother and ugly sister that make her do chores. I chose it also, because of the differences from what I expected. Lin Lan is about Beauty who has the younger sister named Pock Face. Also, when Beauty's mother died, her mom became the family's yellow cow. The yellow cow helps Beauty to do the impossible tasks of the stepmother. Step-mom kills the cow and eats her while Beauty puts the remains on pot and hid them in her bedroom. She breaks the pot in a rage against her step-mom's house and a white horse, a beautiful dress, and embroidered shoes came out. She lost a shoe while riding out and several people offered to pick it up for her if she'd marry them (a fishmonger, a rice broker, an oil merchant, and finally a scholar whom she finally married). When they came back to her home, the sister sneakily pushed Beauty into a well and covered it with a blanket (Beauty lost consciousness and drowned). Beauty's family told the scholar that she had smallpox. Pock Face fooled the scholar that she actually was Beauty and looked like that after the small pox. Beauty came back as a sparrow and the scholar figured out that it was Beauty and kept it as a pet in a golden cage. Pock Face killed it and threw it outside in which it grew to a bamboo shoot. After getting an ulcer from eating from it, Pock Face had it turned into a bed (which continually pricked her but made the scholar very comfy). Then Pock Face went to throw away the
