Mubarak last speech Hosni Mubarak in his last speech used every means of rhetorical deflection, which reflects the image that he misunderstood the demonstrators concerns; because his speech lacks of facts and promises. This speech according to covey fails to follow the concepts of empathic listening; because Mubarak did not seek first to understand what the demonstrators want, but he seek to be understood first. Accordingly, Mubarak uses many of rhetorical appeals to persuade the demonstrators with his speech. Mubarak used mainly Pathos (Emotional Appeal) in his speech to; persuade the demonstrators with his points of view; because Egyptians are well known that they are emotional people. Mubarak uses a lot of Pathos to make the people feel pity and sympathy towards him; as an attempt to make the people forgive him for his faults and wrongdoings, and to give him another chance. He also wants to generate the sense of the family between him and all the Egyptians, as he assumes that he is our father in order to obey him; as it is not ethical to punish our father. Mubarak uses many sentences in his speech to address these points like “I am addressing you all from the heart, a father’s dialogue with his sons and daughters” (Mubarak 1), and “I am telling you that as a president I find no shame in listening to my country’s youth and interacting with them” (Mubarak 1).Thus, in my opinion Mubarak uses the most effective rhetorical appeal because he wants the people to feel empathy towards him, so he plays on their weakest point, and personally I am one of the people how felt empathetic towards him. Mubarak also uses other rhetorical appeals in his speech to be more persuasive to the audience like Ethos.
