When you look at a horror film you know their will be gore, violence and most of the characters will not survive till the end of the film. Martin Scorsese is a cinematic auteur because his films represent his personal vision. The film I am critiquing is Goodfellas. Martin Scorsese is the director of this film. Major actors in the film are Robert De Niro,Ray Liotta, and Joe Pesci.
He is a respected doctor and the character being portrayed as evil is Mr. Hyde an alter ego of Dr. Jekyll that only comes out when he drinks a potion. The novella written by Stevenson has made a significant impact pop culture. I will be explaining the similarities and differences between the book and clips from all types of films ranging from old Hollywood films to cartoons to more recent films that have to do with the book. Some of the similarities between the book and the older Hollywood films are that in the films from 1920 to 1932 Hyde is portrayed as a monster with the top hat and cloak, but in the 1941 version of the film he is missing the top hat and the cloak. A major difference between the book and the 1941 version of the movie is that the movie starts the scene in a church and there is a disorderly man and he is removed from the service and Dr. Jekyll tells them to take him to the hospital.
Some places where the films differed were the assassination scene, and the acting of particular characters. At other instances, such as the orations, both editions were similar in the way they approached the scene. The advantage of a color version is an obvious one, and that is that the viewers feel as if the scene they are viewing is more realistic. A perfect example of how scenery and color was utilized to better portray the story was the assassination of Julius Caesar. Although a shocking event in both adaptations, the color version better fit the mood of the attack on Caesar’s life.
Macbeth is among the most famous of Shakespeare's plays, and his most well known tragedy, believed to have been written between 1603 and 1606. It has also been adapted for opera, film, books, stage and screen. Roman Polanski directed the first major screen film of Macbeth, created in 1971. A further adaptation of Macbeth was directed by Geoffrey Wright in 2006. Both of these films, in particular the 2006 version, feature contrasting elements to the original play written by Shakespeare.
I love Daniel Day-Lewis and his superb acting but I am not a big fan of Winona Ryder and they unfortunately cancel each other out to make a passable movie. As for representing the Salem Witch Trials, it seemed to stick with the story even though it had to dramatize and add love triangles to make sure the audience does not fall asleep. I learned much about the Salem Witch Trials, such as, that a man was hanged and not just women, and that another was pressed with stones until he died. I would consider it good history because it gives you the events and in order of which they happened. I would hope after seeing this film that the audience was intrigued with the lies, deceit, and hysteria that it showed and will go out and do their own research and not take any Hollywood historical film at face value.
By definition an honorable suicide is a process whereby a person commits suicide to escape the shame of an immoral action. In my opinion, the issue was the controversial incest aspect of remaking the film. American film goers gravitate towards action packed thrillers, horror or murder films, and on some occasions success is found in gore or torture pieces. Lee’s remake of South Korean and Japanese Classic don’t appeal to our society’s ideology. Consanguinity is the challenge and key issue that imitates the entire plot of the film.
Henry’s death is one of the most important moments of the novel and is another in the sequence of deaths of people close to Victor. He recalls those of William and Justine, and Elizabeth’s murder at the hands of the monster is yet to come. These deaths arouse in Victor not only a sense of grief and loss, but also strong feelings of guilt and despair because he realises that, ultimately, he is responsible for what has happened . Victor is the narrator of the passage and his only listener is Captain Walton. Walton recieves what is the first of many rhetorical questions in this passage.
Although horror movies can be psychotic, gory, and may sometimes give creative ideas to criminals; criminals committed heinous crimes before the television was even invented. The history of violent crimes and horror films show how violence has been influential to horror films, but does not make a connection with horror films increasing violent behavior. The first actual murder can date back to about 4,000 B.C. when Cain murdered his brother Able (Wikipedia.com). Where did Cain get this idea from?
Quality is the way the director can incorporate the many layers of music, camera techniques, and style in film. The film must also present eloquent character development and create a mood that is appealing to the viewer. Also , the way the theme is displayed throughout the movie by means of camera styles and technique is essential to the overall feeling and understanding of the flick. The Godfather, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, is a very unconventional film about organized crime. However unconventional and strange the movie seems at first, it was a wonderful and engaging film to watch.
Drag Me to Hell is a horror movie that came out in 2009. Though at first glance it seems like a typical gory horror movie with an up-front plot, it is actually atypical. This film has a whole other story going on between the lines. The writers of this film use fictional elements like demons and curses that resonate with everyone to evoke horror in their audience and portray the very real, nonfictional horror of eating disorders. This is a genius way to artistically express a feeling and a state of mind that most people are aware of but don’t have enough understanding to be able to empathize with.
