First of all, Wharton’s subtle action toward Ethan’s torn feelings for Mattie and being loyal to his wife. Ethan was unfortunate to have a choice in leaving his wife to be with Mattie but, tried a futile decision to both trying to do suicide. In the novel there were events in which Ethan was indecisive over rebelling against Zeena’s decision of firing Mattie. I was very compassionate toward Ethan when he heard that Mattie was being sent away as for his reaction was as said “now his one ray of light was to be extinguished”. The moments between Ethan and Zeena showed me how miserable he truly was and made me sympathize with him for their
They were talking about Lina and how Trujillo is trying his best to gain her heart. They continue on describing their feeling toward the president and most of them are negative. (72 words) | “If I leave my country, it’s only to continue the struggle.” (pg.73) | I understand why if she leaves it would cause more chaos with her family and her emotions. She is having problem with her father not with him but with his actions and her fiancé and his friend fighting against Trujillo. Trujillo as this sort of attraction to Minerva in a manner like if he loved her.
No matter how “inexplicably drawn to [the downright]” men she may be, her character is one that almost mirrors her grandfather’s. The incomprehensible attraction that Vanessa had for the “downright” men was the individual effort from her to be able to choose her own identity. Upon comprehension of her futile attempt to run away from what she is destined to be, she questions her personal choice and “[wonders] if [she will] ever catch up to [being like Uncle Dan].” Vanessa recognizes the distance between her true nature and the character that she seeks to choose. Her understanding and ability to feel what her family feels and to be able extend their sorrows and misery to her is what allows her to realize that her identity is an inherited character that she emulates from her
It is evident that he is not happy being married to Daisy because he has an affair with Myrtle. This is another example of how money does not necessarily buy happiness. It is ironic that Daisy kills Myrtle because although she didn’t mean to kill her she might have been jealous that she is everything that Daisy is not to Tom. Therefore she feels a need to get Myrtle out of the
Julian Hayden’s prior knowledge for Frank’s action has him pointing toward the defensive side while David’s father, Wesley Hayden, leaning towards the offensive side, looking forward for justice to be served against his brother Frank. The crimes committed by Frank has both families assuming the consequences for his actions. Gail, Wesley Hayden’s wife, believes that ‘crimes committed should never go unpunished’, there putting justice on top of family loyalty. In the beginning of the novel, the emotions Gail has been putting towards herself was very yet, interesting. As both sides of the families started to begin a war amongst each other, she soon starts to give up, ‘I want my family back’.
Antigone believes that without burying her brother he will not have a good after-life. Antigone even goes as far as burying him twice. Antigone is more admirable in that she is not selfish. She cared for her brother so much that she would go through all this trouble to give him a good after-life. She wanted to marry Haimon but sacrificed this to bury her brother.
She wrote that letter as soon as he left, it's quite unfair and she even realizes it yet still writes it to satisfy herself. Even when he enlisted, she knew that he was not for him but for her. Editha noticed he became a different person after enlisting, " he made her feel as if she had lost her old lover and found a stranger in his place," if she had truly loved him she would not have felt giddy at the thought of kissing a stranger after losing her true love. Now Howell uses George's view on war, his family history and even his death to symbolize realism. From the beginning George sees war as a negative thing
Relationships can be hard, especially, when careers interfere. If Cliff did quit so he could stay with Priscilla, she may regret being the cause of him quitting or he may always hold it over her head by saying, “you should do this for me since I quit my career to be with you.” Another problem with this relationship is that Cliff and Priscilla are an interracial couple. Interracial couples were permitted but not accepted during this time, especially in the South. Even though the nation was desegregated, not everyone approved of blacks and whites being together. Cody the bartender told Sam how his Father would have handled Cliff and Priscilla’s relationship if it had occurred while Buddy was
Olivia also had her identity mistaken by her brother's best friend antonio. Viola said that she had no idea who he was and Antonio, still believing her to be Sebastian, rightfully got very angry and upset because he had considered sebastian as a good and loyal friend. This case of mistaken identity caused hurt feelings and confusion to those involved. Unlike the other cases of mistaken identity , this one had no humor purpose this incident is an interesting and more serious part of the play, which involves another mistake over Viola's identity. As a final summary, I think mistaken identity is a very important aspect of Twelfth Night: it provides humour, complications and interesting twists to the play.
One similarity is that Holden and Cecilia are not content with the lifestyles they are living. For example, Cecilia first believes that being closer to her brother and being part of the gang is the life she wants but finds out that it has made her life worse. Then she decides that she wants to escape from it. “Since I’m his baby sister that means I must have that blood in me too, somewhere in me like a wild horse….But that’s not me. I fight it.
