The immoral characters lie constantly throughout the novel for many different reasons. The King lies as a sort of art, while the Duke lies nonstop during his entire appearance in the novel. Pap, another immoral character, makes up countless stories during his appearances. He lies for personal gain, he does not care about anyone but himself. When Huck fakes his own murder, Pap seems to have feelings of regret but ultimately does not care as much as a father should.
Julia’s lifestyle makes it very hard to believe that Julia truly loves Winston. Julia does not love Winston. Although she claims to love Winston she has done too much in her lifetime and their society is filled with too many liars to be able to accept this claim of love as sincere. The Great Gatsby Essay In the great Gatsby F. Scott Fitzgerald addresses many flaws in human character. He does this by showing the struggle of morality that each character goes through in the book. Gatsby struggles with morality by deception. Tom’s morality is in question due to adultery. And Daisy goes throughout the book ignoring her morals.
Myrtle Wilson is ashamed of her social position in life because she is poor. First off, when she is with Tom, (which is wrong in the first place) she is lifted of her under-class blemishes, even though Tom has abused her. When Tom and Nick go into town to the apartment party, Nick states, “Making a short deft movement, Tom Buchanan broke her nose with his open hand”(37). It is never okay no matter what situation a person is in to hit a woman. Tom is so arrogant that he thinks he can do whatever he wants.

Meursault’s detached personality is first shown when he showed no emotion at his mother’s funeral and how he did not know his mother’s age: “I [Meursault] hadn’t wanted to see mother, hadn’t cried once and I’d left straight after the funeral without paying my respects at her grave.” (86). Meursault does not meet society’s expectation because he was different from the rest of society. He is expected to cry and show his respects but he does the exact opposite. A normal man would be devastated by the loss of his mother and suffer from sadness and despair; however, Meursault does not even care much about the date she passed away. “Mother died today or yesterday maybe, I don’t know.” (3) Another point is that shortly after the funeral, Meursault is reacquainted with a typist who used to work at the office with him.
Beginning with David's wig, his vain attempt to pass as a member of a higher society that has already dropped the wig from fashionable dress, and ending with Faulkland's last attempt to trick Julia into admitting base motives for loving him, no one willingly presents things as they really are. In fact, many of the characters lie outright. Fag lies to Sir Anthony for Jack about the son's reasons for being in Bath, and Lucy lies to Sir Lucius about who is writing love letters to him. Other characters simply misrepresent themselves. Jack masquerades as Ensign Beverley in order to win Lydia's love, while Mrs. Malaprop tries to appear more sophisticated by peppering her speech with fancy vocabulary that she neither means nor understands.
