The dancers launch the dance with walking up and down the stage in two lines of four and interchanging through each other, followed by a hop every time the direction of their walks and runs is changed. They all hold hands with each other, even a man holding the hand of another man, to symbolize their unity and equality as human beings. The dancers continue running around the large circumference of the stage, repeating the intertwining motions within themselves in lines. An occasional soloist separates his or herself from the group to demonstrate his or her individuality by showing off a unique movement that is not repeated by the other
The first dance acted as an introduction to the dancers, each performing a small elegant choreography then taking their place on the floor or by the ballet bar against the wall. Some of the introduction dances were foreign to me, specifically the one where the dancers were very elongated. For example, one of the male dancers came out and did a few jumps where his arms were held straight out from his sides and he would hop, he would hop with pointed feet then land on one foot while the other was still pointed and his leg was stretched out behind him. Though we do use a lot of ballet techniques when warming up, the choreographed dances themselves that we have performed in class usually aren’t that ballet-esque, there’s typically a bend in the body somewhere. On the other hand there were many dancers who came out in the beginning who perform dancers that looked completely familiar, particularly the women who took their place on the ground.

In the historical dance masterpiece “The Rite of Spring”, choreographer, Vaslav Nijinski shows a very different type of dance from what we see today. Not only are the dance movements different, but the musical composer, Ignor Stravinsky, brings a whole different type of sound to the stage. “The Rite of Spring” is a dance that has lots of movement and many dancers on stage all at the same time. This dance also shows a lot of emotion and the dancer’s expressions are very well explained. In scene 1, “The Adoration of the Earth”, there is very well use of the stage and lots of movement.
The wealthy with their minuets, gavottes and quadrilles; the middle class with their jigs, reels and clogs; and finally the Africans with their energetic, percussive, into the ground dancing. Together all of these would come together and form what we know as tap dancing. Not all of the blending of these cultures took place on purpose. In families that had slaves, the slaves lived in the house with their masters and because of this; they observed European dances of the plantation owners. They began to mimic their owners in the pompous manners they used to dance and added kicks among other things as they did it.
Color guard is almost like dancing. With color guard on the other hand, they dance with objects in their hands. For example, color guard uses riffles, flags, and swords when they are dancing. As cheerleaders use their words to tell a story color guard uses the music and movement to tell a simple story behind the song. Color guard’s dances are more contemporary and lyrical unlike the cheerleaders cheering.
November Dance After watching all five segments of the November Dance, I decided to write about the second piece, which was called “Dance Dance Dance”! This was such an interesting piece! At first, when the dancers came out of the curtain onto the stage, I kept thinking “wow, I haven’t seen a presentational dance during our dance 100 class, let alone in a very long time”. I noticed they all had make up on similar to the kind of make up I would wear for my dances or plays when I was in middle school; very dramatic! The costumes accredited to Jess Gersz were extremely flashy, and looked like it could have been worn out on a normal day, and not just this dance.
Yoon Williy The hardships and sacrifices I have made in order to be good at Dancing is a great form of exercise and also provides a great way to express yourself through music and movement. Break dancing originated from the famous legendary singer, James Brown. It also came from the subways of the Big Apple, New York City. Break dancing was a type of dance that gave an individual the chance to express his/her expression through dance. It is also a competitive dance and many people make groups or “crews” to show their passion of break dancing.
After waiting for a few seconds, the music finally started, and each girl on stage looked over to the right corner to see Ms. Heather, and watch her anticipate the dance moves in fear that we would forget them and make a mistake. Everything went as planned and when the recital was over my
There are many forms of dance and they all differ from nation to nation. In some cultures for example people dress up in costumes, paint different objects on their body, etc. Attending the Sacramento State S/Bad concert I was introduced to a unique form of dancing, something I wouldn’t normally go to see. It got me very interested and I saw how much effort and power it takes to perform a successful dance concert. Dance is a beautiful form of art; it provides people with the ability to think more openly and clearly.
