Person Percy Mr. Mister Essay #3 August 1st, 2013 American Ethics Stereotypes are something that we all hate, all are aware of, yet somehow, all have. Being Americans we sometimes allow ourselves to get so isolated as to think that we only hold stereotypes of ourselves and of other nationalities as a whole. However, what we fail to acknowledge is that we are not the only country who maintain such stereotypes on this Earth. As a matter of fact, when comparing the stereotypical “American” to citizens of foreign nations one could make a strong argument that we as a society actually have the worst stereotypes. Mexico, is one of these countries that strongly holds a negative view of the stereotypical Amrican.
Day of the Dead The celebrations of El Dia de los Muertos Day (Day of the Dead) dates back to the Aztecs. It is a celebration that allows deceased family members and friends know that they have not been forgotten by the living. The belief system behind the holiday is that after a person dies his or her spirit returns once a year to visit. The Days of the Dead is the chance for the living to show the spirits how much they meant to them when they return. The celebration is not meant to be scary, like the American holiday of Halloween, but rather a celebration of life itself.
The Rise and Fall* of Post-Classic Native Mexicans In the eyes of a person unacquainted with the history and culture of Mexico, it is easy to make a stereotype of the Mexican people as simply uneducated farmers and laborers who migrate to the United States in search of a better life. When studying the Native Mexicans of the Post-Classic period it is obvious to even the uneducated that the presence of these cultures is no longer felt as strongly as in the past, or in other words, these civilizations fell. But just the Roman Empire, these

President Abraham Lincolin proclaimed a National holiday for thanksgiving to be celebrated as a federal and a popular holiday in the United States. The proclamation has been repeated by many other presidents after Lincolin. This event is marked by all citizens of the United States and it is a day that family members take a day off from their busy schedules to come together and celebrate this important day. National leaders also take this opprtunity to come together with their constituents as a show of unity and togetherness. Even with the importance attached to this ritual, my observation is that its symbolic importance has been watered down and reduced to just another day that people get a day off from their normally busy schedules.
