The Art of seeing Essay Georgia O'Keeffe Oriental Poppies Pg 54 Oil on Canvas Georgia O’Keeffe’s “Oriental Poppies” is an oil painting on canvas which was completed in 1927. This abstract representational work was declared a groundbreaking, art masterpiece. Georgia O'Keeffe’s painting is what she perceived in her mind and felt in her heart. In "Oriental Poppies," she depicts two giant poppy flowers, Measuring 30" x 40. "Oriental Poppies" almost looks like a close up photograph.
These entries seem to be from the scrapbook. An example will be the bottom entry seen on page 49. Symbol #2 The second symbol in Alias Grace would be the peonies. Peonies are these beautiful flowers that Grace remembers growing in Thomas Kinnear’s garden. In real life they represent happy marriage, power and nobility.
I have never met her but her web site states that she has been in the art and design fields for over 30 years and that she mainly now works with acrylics. It also talks about her focuses have been on landscapes that she sees from the road. This is my analysis of this art piece. The Talbott Dawn (2009) painting is a landscape scene looking form the road across a field of looks like hay or straw through trees at the sunset. I will start from the background which shows with shiny acrylic paints a very calming blue and white sky.
The visual weight of the vivid green leaves in the background jump out and catch the eye. This self-portrait shows the beauty that surrounded her in the busy visual field. The print I chose is “The Widow” which by Kathe Kollwitz. I found this print on page 178 of the textbook. This portrait is woodcut in monotone black .
Visual Arts and Poetry The Girl Powdering Her Neck by Cathy Song Portrait by Kitagawa Utamaro The poem Girl Powdering Her Neck was written by Hawaiian native Cathy Song. Cathy Song’s first piece of work The Picture Bride won her the Yale Series of Younger Poets Competition in 1983. Song’s father was Korean American and her mother Chinese American. Her interest in writing began very young, when she would journal her families’ experiences. Her first work was actually about her father and mother, her mother was a picture bride.
I love the way it just merges into the flowing clock. Andrea The grey tones in this photograph make the image seem dull and city-like. The focus seems to be in the fore ground but fades out to be out of focus and fades to one tone. I love how the artist has created this with the lighting. This establishing shot creates a strong image of the city and the lifestyle on a dull day.
Books, swords and skulls represented Vanitas symbolism. While these objects represented an important message for the ear, still life paintings have evolved overtime, and this is shown in the Dutch painting “An Allegory of the Vanities of human life”. Secondly, contemporary still life artworks have evolved since Steenwyck vanitas painting; ‘The Static Eternity’ by Goa Rong is a contemporary example of how still life has evolved over time. The artwork is a replica of her grandparent’s house where they lived for 50 years and raised seven children. She uses traditional embroidery and takes them into new dimensions; Her work converts embroidery into sculpture, with every detail stitched on fabric wrapped around sponge that is stiffened by steel frames and wire.
