Censorship is a suppression of media, speech, or other public communication that may be considered foul to some members of our society. It is intended to cover up foul language, images, or other media branches. This was brought about to prevent any offense to the public’s children, teens, adults and people altogether. Some feel that we should cover up all of the negative in the world, others feel that if we are never challenged with new ideas that we will never mature or grow. Either way, censorship is an important and controversial topic in today’s society. In the novel Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury sets a story in the future where books are burned in an attempt to try not to stir or offend anyone. They want people to remain indifferent and not know any better. Ray Bradbury feels that the censoring of everything is wrong. We cannot cover up the challenges of the world in attempt to hide all of the negatives. With more technology, we are seeing less and less printed scripts with each passing year. I feel Bradbury was mocking the technological advancements of today’s world. I feel that a certain amount of censorship is a good thing, on the other hand I think that too much can be a bad thing. If we cover up everything and act like there is no negative in the world we will never be challenged with new or opposing ideas and will never mature.
