In March 1998, by which time he had already killed well over 200 people, a police investigation was begun—but quickly abandoned. It was not until Shipman decided to forge the will of one of his victims in June 1998 that a thorough investigation took place, leading to his arrest three months later. Since beginning to investigate Shipman in 2000, I have been trying to understand how it was that he could kill so many patients without detection. There were, of course, some system failures, but it has been impossible to avoid the question as to why the system weaknesses were tolerated to the extent that Shipman was able to murder not merely one or two patients, but over 200. The conclusion I have come to is that all doctors, and not general practitioners alone, share responsibility for creating the circumstances that enabled Shipman to be so successful a killer.
Charles Ray Hatcher was an American serial killer who confessed to murdering 16 people during the years of 1969-1982. Born in Missouri; July, 16th 1929. Murder: Baltimore vs. Denver Murder is considered one of the worst crimes in the world today. It happens throughout the world and quite often within the United States. Some cities within the United States have more murders than others and are committed more frequently. Murder rates vary from city to city and state to state. This paper will compare two metropolitan cities, in two different states, that have large populations and compare their murder rates.
40 minutes later the police received an anonymous phone call from a man claiming to be their killer and admitting to the murders of the previous two victims. One month three letters were sent to Newspapers in California containing a cypher that the killer claimed would give them his name. They cypher was decrypted to read: “I LIKE KILLING PEOPLE BECAUSE IT IS SO MUCH FUN, IT IS MORE FUN THAN KILLING WILD GAME
Some of those reasons being the crime rates, the costs of what could happen, and injuries. Firearm injuries have killed more than 28,000 Americans each year since 1972 (Ruben). In 2007, thirty-one thousand two hundred twenty four Americans died due to homicides, suicides, and accidental shootings. Accidental shootings happen quite often. In 2007, around seventy thousand Americans were hospitalized due to accidental shootings.
Swanson gives a very detailed narrative of how the 12-day chase for Lincoln’s killer went. He also tells of Booth’s accomplices that tried to murder vice president, Andrew Johnson and secretary of state, Edward Stanton. He tells how about Booth’s plan, the murder, and how he got away. He tells about the how he was caught and later and killed. He explains vividly the murder and how everyone reacted to it afterwards.
For twenty years, theses deaths and disappearances were attributed to the so-called “Green River Killer,” which was an unidentified serial murderer (The Seattle). Detectives and forensic scientists reviewed hundreds of items of physical evidence and interviewed thousands of witnesses but the case remained unsolved until 2001. In 2001, the King County Prosecuting Attorney charged Gary Leon Ridgway with four of these murders because of DNA evidence (The Seattle). In the following year, additional forensic evidence led to three more murder charges. The seven charges implicated Ridgway in only a fraction of the Green River homicides.
In our country nearly one half of households own a gun and nearly thirty thousand people die each year from gun shot related wounds (Smock 151). It is because of statistics like these that gun control has become one of the most heated issues that our country is currently facing. While it is obvious that guns are dangerous weapons that must be used responsibly, many people are debating whether or not stricter laws should be put in to place in an attempt to lower the harms caused by guns. Many states and cities across the nation have already established laws that have made it harder for people to get their hands on guns. Many extremists have even asked for guns to be completely taken out of the hands of everyday citizens.
The motives of male and female serial killers differ severely, but regardless of gender the thought and meaning of a serial killer is just as horrific. A serial killer is a person who murders more than four people, one at a time, using the same modus operandi (m.o) each time over a period of weeks, months or years. Serial killers are different from mass murderers in that killings are one after another instead of all at one time. Usually, but not always, the killer has no prior acquaintance with the victims and chooses randomly or by a set group of characteristics (such as gender, hair color, age, resemblance of a relative, etc.). Serial killers have a propensity to share general characteristics.
Among many things Jeffery Dahmer had many titles a serial killer, necrophiliac, cannibal and psychopath. Dahmer murdered seventeen men and boys between 1978 and 1991, with the majority of the murders occurring between 1989 and 1991. His murders were particularly gruesome, involving rape, necrophilia and cannibalism. Cannibalism is a person who eats the flesh of other humans. Cannibalism is done in situations of famine or insanity.
