Today there is a special branch of the military specifically designed to handle any condition and any foe without hesitation or remorse. This specialized branch is so effective and well equipped today because of who they were in the past. They were built based on some of the strongest principles, allowing them to rise against any quarry when one, willingly or not, defied them and their beloved country. The early advances of the U.S. military required a special branch to combine all of its power into a superior fighting force allowing them to fight in any country, design and revolutionize weaponry, and help to shape the New American government as it stands today. The United States Marine Corps has been able to influence the opinions of countless
It is by far the finest book I have read, and it continues to impact how I lead. 2. We Were Soldiers Once … and Young by Harold G. Moore and Joseph L. Galloway Pete Kilner: I read this while at the Infantry Officer Advanced Course. I was struck by how Hal Moore and his commanders knew their Soldiers, by the things Moore did to create a winning culture and by how unpredictable war can be. Another big takeaway was that despite the brutality and emotions of combat, a leader must remain calm, see the big picture, and anticipate the “next steps” for his unit and the enemy.
Many Marines have given up their lives in order to protect one another and defeat the enemy. This story teaches today’s Marines how to fight like Marines as well as why this service holds so many honors. The never say die attitude of every man on that hill is proof why the Marines are America’s elite, because they can take every hardship that God and the world can throw at them and still never give up. The Marines in this book are the kind of fighters we should all try to be. Courage is one of the main traits than shows the most throughout this story.
Gun-Decking I spoke with my SEL, Senior Chief Reynolds, about the gun-decking case and the consequences that gun-decking can have in the fleet. As we discussed this case, Senior Chief stressed the importance of planning, loyalty, and trust. He told me that passing a command inspection is a big deal and requires an immense amount of planning and preparation. He said it was obvious that these sailors were not keeping the ship in fight mode and were not performing as war fighters in the ready. While passing this inspection can be very crucial in influencing the reputations of everyone from the division officer to the skipper, he emphasized there is never an appropriate time and place for gun-decking.
It’s absolutely important for us to maintain full accountability in the Marine Corps because not only are we under-funded, which makes replacing lost gear a huge hassle, but it instills discipline in our Marines and helps them build a stronger character by maintaining full gear retention at all times. When a Marine keeps full accountability of issued gear, it illustrates to that Marine’s peers that the Marine is squared away. The more squared away the Marine is, the better off he/she will be in garrison and in country. When a Marine shows that he can take care of himself and keep full accountability of his issued gear then that Marine demonstrates the ability to take care of his other Marines as well look out for their well-being. When a Marine keeps full accountability of issued gear, then he/she will have fewer things to worry about and will be able to concentrate more on the mission that needs to be completed.
This document is very powerful and covers a wide variety of things dealing with Vietnam. I think that he was very persuasive in the way he worded the need of attention in Vietnam, by saying if we don’t try our best now, we will have to pull our defenses all the way back to San Francisco. He also said that if we don’t help Vietnam it would show the word that that American doesn’t live up to their treaties or stand by their friends. In my opinion, that was very well put and probably got the listeners attention because he is pretty much saying that by not doing in thing, America would look weak and Communism would spread even faster. Johnson’s report made it clear where he stood in the fight against Communism, he didn’t mind how we did it, whether it be building a government or sending in troops, but he thought it needed to be done sooner instead of later to keep the strength and morale of the people
Tom Gilmore EngWr 300 Professor Hawley 4 March 2012 Journey of The Few, The Proud, The Marines The United States is in a constant state of security from threats, and the world is only getting more and more hostile towards us. America needs to know that there is a blanket of security being provided for them at all times. America needs to know that the United States Marine Corps is that blanket of security. The United States Marine Corps (USMC) is branch of the U.S. armed services (part of the US Navy), founded in 1775 and trained to operate on land and at sea. Men and women from all over the world try their abilities of strength and courage to see what it takes to be a true Marine.
This military campaign happened because the military needed more knowledge on what the operation was involving and they needed to train for this big operation. The main reason for this operation is because we as Americans did not want another 9/11 to happen so we wanted to rebel and capture Saddam Hussein who was the main brain behind all of the terrorists plots. 6. How: How did the United States justify its involvement in Iraq? How does the U.S. justify our current status with Iraq (why are we still there?)
Chances are the command may not be successful at the mission at hand if they cannot adapt and overcome. While I was in the Navy, and now in civilian life, I have witnessed many different examples of leadership, good and bad. The style that I especially admire, which I also see in myself, is the servant leadership style. This style is not always applicable in the military, and often not favored, its role can be beneficial to the maintaining the welfare of the Sailors if not used to drive the mission. There have been many writings about the effectiveness and qualities of servant leadership.
Discipline is a course of actions leading to a goal greater than the satisfaction of the immediate. A disciplined person is one that has established a goal and is willing to achieve that goal at the expense of his or her immediate comfort. A well-disciplined organization is one whose members work with enthusiasm, willingness, and zest as individuals and as a group to fulfill the mission of the organization with expectation of success. Just the simple fact that we are not in a combat zone, or deployment; doesn’t mean we are not doing something good for the NAVY. First, way before we carry out that type of mission we have to be able to do something just a simple as having a belt.
