To find a need of the people for a particular product or service and expand on it in order to make a profit is what many entrepreneurs do to start their company. A perfect example is the formation of Five Guys Burgers and Fries by the Murrell family. Their desire to focus on providing the consumer with quality burgers and fries have led them to be very successful in a short amount of time. This paper will determine how Five Guys’ philosophy sets it apart from other fast-food chains.
Unlike Mcdonalds, Chick-fil-a serves the crowd a free dinner,10 coupons for free meals. This shows a lot of genorousity and a great appeal to fast food fans. For the past two years , the Atlanta-based chain was named “best drive-through in America” by the quick-service resturaurant trade. (QSR MAG) The employees at Chick-fil-a strive to complete orders within 90 seconds in the drive through window and 60 seconds at the counter. Some might find it appealing how Chick-fil-a shares corporate values such as all locations being closed on Sunday,as a day of rest and worship.
A definite strength is the simple menu. The company has a mission statement “Food with Integrity” referencing its organic ingredients. Chipotles menu consists of different types of burritos, tacos, and salads. Ells said “It’s important to keep the menu focused, because if you do a few things, you can ensure that you do them better than anybody else” I strongly agree with his point of view. My first visit to Chipotle was a month ago.
White Castle began in 1921 by founder Billy Ingram and the White Castle hamburger is introduced in the market. The name White was meant to describe the company’s purity and cleanliness and Castle signified strength and stability. According to the company’s recent press release, White Castle was the first fast food hamburger chain, founded in 1921and now operates more than 400 restaurants in eleven states (2010). The original success of the company was in its marketing because before 1921, the hamburger was an undesirable product (Goldberg, 2010). In terms of fast food restaurant life span, even twenty-five years in business can seem like an eternity.
While Midas Burger doesn’t have the best price in town, they offer a great value for the price. Drinks are large and more than plenty to finish a meal. Any meal comes with your main item which is a large portion and comes with another big portion of their fries. When I go to Midas Burger I expect an unforgettable taste in my mouth and every time my expectations are beat. Midas Burger has a long and interesting history.
Kudler Fine Foods Market Analysis Kudler Fine Foods is a gourmet food grocery mart that prides itself on serving the customer with the finest organic foods available from around the world. Business owner Kathy Kudler realized there was a demand for a gourmet food market in her hometown of La Jolla, California. She believed that there was a market for quality foods, and that people would be willing to shop at a store with a concentration of rare quality foods. The company slogan is shopping the world for the finest food. This slogan emphasizes the company mission to truly serve what they believe is the best items from around the world, no matter the location.
With the trends of healthy eating becoming more prominent in the marketplace, Chipotle has an advantage with their ability to provide the consumer with fresher products than their competition. Another strength of Chipotle is that they have a tendency to promote personnel from within the company. This allows the company to maintain their high standards by retaining employees who are knowledgeable about the product and expectations of the company and their customers. Ells stated that “we can teach people how to run a Chipotle…but you can’t teach someone how to be polite and hospitable and high-energy and smart and ambitious and curious and happy and respectful and honest and presentable and conscientious and motivated and infectiously enthusiastic” (Huffingtonpost.com). This prompted Monty Moran, co-CEO, to develop the “restaurateur program” which gives employees the ability to advance quickly through the ranks of the company.
The situation is very ironic because the grocery stores with nutritious food advocates for fast food restaurants that are, in context, competing with their sales. Prices of fast food products appear cheaper than full home cooked meals. On average, costumers pay four dollars for a drink, a burger, and a side item. Additionally, fast food is fast. Each fast food corporation has special procedures to keep their paying costumers happy by giving them exactly what they asked for, fast food.
