There is a moral difference between Shelton’s killing of his attackers and that of his other victims. Darby and Ames caused personal harm to Shelton and thus gave him the moral right to try and prevent any other future pain that could be caused by these men, but the other victims were combatants in the war that Shelton waged against the “system”. When looking at Darby and Ames, Shelton takes a more utilitarian approach when dealing with their killings. The government “system” is supposed to punish those who are wrong. But in the trial of Darby and Ames, only Ames was punished severely while Darby was allowed to go free.
Surely and all loving (omnibenevolent) God wouldn’t allow this. Human Evil is where people cause harm to others and create chaos. Why would God create a world that consists of evil and cruelty? therefore Mill questions the idea of an omnibenevolent God, however if it is disagreed that God isn’t all loving then it could suggest that God doesn’t know of our suffering and could mean that omniscience cannot possibly be an attribute of God. Mill would say that if God is omniscient then surely he is aware of our suffering and would therefore intervene in the evil as he loves us all.
First of all fraternities are different and are founded on different ideals. With that being said, I believe this fraternity should not base the quality of their new members on how much they can drink. Ultimately Benjamin was the one who chose to put himself in that situation involving heavy drinking and could have removed himself from the situation whenever he wanted to. Fraternities are known for their drinking and partying, but most of it is unseen by the public eye and when tragedies like this occur, fraternities all over get a bad rap. A little social drinking is not a terrible thing, but drinking turns deadly when people treat it as a sport and try to “out drink” others.
This is a physically and agonizing procedure that no would should have to endure, and my opinion anyone who practices it would be incarcerated for attempt to murder. In conclusion I absolutely agree with Lenn Goodman on his perspective of wrong in the topics listed in the article “Moral Minima”. Many cultures practice different rituals, and believe different beliefs, but some are just plain cruel and horrid. There are right and wrong ways to handle different situations, but lying, cheating, stealing, using, and abusing other human beings is not one of them. There needs to be
In gods eyes a sin is a sin, he had a universal way of looking at things. To God it doesn’t matter who you are or what you did on earth. If you sinned, then you were to be punished. Even a priest wasn’t safe from his eternal suffering if he deserved it. God made sure he had a certain outline of rules to be followed so no one could say I didn’t know.
Written In Stone After reading the article “Some Moral Minima” by Lenn Goodman, I must admit that I agree that there are certain things that are flat line wrong. Living in today’s society with so many different cultures, religious and political beliefs we are bound to view some aspects of life differently. I must say however, some should never fall in that category. Genocide seeks to destroy a race, a culture even a class. Slavery allows one man to imprison another man that is his equal, to a life he doesn’t choose.
How would you feel if you were forced to learn a new culture, language, and a new style of a country? Forcing an immigrant to adapt to a new country is morally wrong and should not be allowed. Forcing nonresidents to learn America’s culture and language is wrong because it would contradict the 1st amendment, they would be destroying the immigrant’s culture, and no foreign individual would be unique. Immigrants have the rights as anyone else, and restricting them is cold hearted. “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” Breaking this amendment will oppose the laws that our founding fathers made which outlined the fundamentals of this outstanding country we live in. Therefore, America has no right to demand nonresidents to learn their culture. Nobody denies that a personality can be created by culture. Culture determines many things about you such as what you eat, how you speak, what your beliefs are, what clothing you where,
After confessing honestly to committing adultery against his wife, and refusing to testify against Abigail ultimately lead to his down fall. John was thought to be associated with the devil, although he had an opportunity to make a false confession, he refused to tarnish his good name and congenial reputation. Reputation was undeniably important and the fear of guilt by association was evident. People refused to be affiliated with individuals whose behavior was thought to be unscrupulous in order not to afflict their reputations. Although morality was apparent in some individuals, others lacked it undoubtedly.
People with too much pride are easily manipulated into things because they fear people thinking less of them. Too much arrogance can lead to humiliation if you boast about yourself and your abilities and then fall short. The right amount of both can lead you to greatness, but too much like our friend Macbeth can lead to a downward spiral of bad decisions if you let hubris cloud your better judgement. Macbeth was a great war hero who allowed hubris to make decisions for him without thinking about consequences and that ultimately led to his
Martin Luther King stated, “A just law is a man-made law of God. An unjust law is a code that is out of harmony with the moral law” (Schaefer, 2011, p. 187). King believed, “that people have the right to disobey unjust laws under certain circumstances” (Schaefer, 2011, p. 187). I agree with King’s beliefs in regards to civil disobedience. If a person feels strongly about something, the only way for things to change, are for people to take a stand.
