GKE1 World History Task 1 Part A: Mesopotamia: “Land between two rivers” The Tigris and Euphrates River System is the most significant physical geographic factor that contributed to the development of human society in Mesopotamia. Without the existence of this river system the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia would not have formed in this region nor would their innovations or crafts. The Tigris and Euphrates River System delivered the life sustaining resources that were necessary in sustaining human habitation, which eventually developed into some of the first government run societies in human history. Considered the birthplace of civilization, Mesopotamia is a Greek name that means “land between two rivers” (Orlin, 2010, p.145). Mesopotamia is a fertile flat plain that was created by rich deposits of mud and clay that the two rivers carried from highlands and mountains that today make up the eastern side of Turkey, which lay to the north of what was Mesopotamia and is currently Iraq.

The one factor that chiefly characterized Egypt's relationship with Nubia through most of their history was exploitation. Nubia's most important resource for Egypt was precious metal, including gold and electrum. The gold mines of Nubia were located in certain valleys and mountains on either side of the Nile River, although the most important mining center was located in the Wadi Allaqi. That valley extended eastward into the mountains near Qubban (about 107 km. south of Elephantine).

In comparison the Nina (Columbus’s biggest ship) was a mere 90 by 30 feet. The size of the Chinese ships at this time was what the Europeans conjured up in the Victorian era over 2 centuries later. Simply in knowing that you could say that the Chinese were equipped well enough to make it across the Pacific. This plus Chinese advanced maritime skills and archeological finds supporting even earlier voyages all the way to Easter Island. Saying that is based on opinion and assumptions, so here’s the proof an amateur historian, found detailed maps, logs and accounts of voyages to the Americas in the early 1400’s.
Joan Lee Period 1, AP Us History 5 January 2010 Chapter 25 America Moves to the City 1865-1900 Through industrial revolutions, many Americans began to abandon their agrarian farm lives and grasp the life of the City. Not only were Americans following this trend, many Europeans begun to desert farming and search for fresh job opportunities in the cities. This instigated a prodigious increase of city dwellers and minimized the amount of farmers in the U.S. I. The Urban Frontier (pages 557-560) a.
