Lying as an Art of Persuasion Persuasion may be regarded as looking for a way to overcome resistance via the use of arguments and words. These words are meant to prompt in the mind of the influenced the belief that he has to comply (Bivins, 2009). An individual is only regarded as persuaded only when he or she believes that he is meant to act or behave in a particular manner. Lying falls under persuasion as it conveys a message that the sender knows to be false. The sender aims at obtaining from the mind of the individual receiving it the power to arrive at its conclusion. At one time in the organization, my employer kept on lying to us the employees that he will increase our salary as an act of employee motivation. The aim of our employer was to ensure that we were continually motivated by the idea that we will receive a salary increment at the end of the month. He also intended to take his time in rewarding the employees so as to have a better employee rewarding package (Conger, 1998). Our employer managed to attain employee motivation under false optimism. Moreover, our employer was able to record increased profits within that period considering that investments were made by channeling the cash meant for employee motivation somewhere else. However, this lie had a number of consequences. First, the discovery that our employer was continually lying to us led to damages on the existing valued trust and relationship between the employees and the employer. This lying led to the employee’s objective to appear less desirable and even unattainable. Some employees even had a view that other alternatives had more lucrative consequences hence they resigned in search of an alternative job. References Bivins, T. H. (2009). Lying & Deception.
