Name: Esther Lawal P1: Describe the physical, intellectual, emotional and social development of each of the life stages of your chosen individual. Lifespan development: From the moment we are first conceived, to the day we die; we are constantly changing and developing. Some of the stages we pass through are due to biological and psychological heritage as human beings and are shared by all people. Our lifespan development provides us with a view of the different stages that we pass through: Birth, Infancy, Adolescence, Adulthood, old age and death. They had three children together back home in Nigeria but they weren’t happy with the life they were living so therefore they started to save up money in order to travel abroad to start a fresh and better life not just for themselves but also for their children. After four years of saving, the day they waited for was here and they were all set and excited. Everything changed when they arrived to London because there were few arguments, Yemi said she doesn’t like it here in England and she then later moved to Ireland with her kids leaving her husband who refused to follow her to Ireland. They both lived separate lives for approximately 11years but he did come to visit the odd times. Adapting to a new environment wasn’t easy for her at all as English wasn’t her first language and she also felt sick at times due to the change of the weather. She knew without English she couldn’t work even with the degree, so she took up private English classes and eventually she was getting better. Yemi had to do an access course in Ireland called PLC in order to become a full time nurse. Biologists and psychologists who emphasize the role of instincts and genetic inheritance explain gender role behavior in terms of chromosomes and hormones. Yemi’s sex gender role determine her experience because while she was back home in Nigeria, one of the reasons she couldn’t get a proper job was because she was a female and at that time females were expected to stay home and take care of the family. Her gender role also defines her choice of career because normally female are always interested in nursing than men. It has been known that certain physical characteristics are biologically determined by genetic inheritance e.g. eye colour, skin colour etc. For Yemi this is quite difficult because as a black woman with a nursing degree there were still many doubts because basically in Ireland it is very hard for a black woman to get a job like nursing. The nature side of intelligence is present at birth and we already have a set amount of intelligence. A psychologist called Alfred Binet had an idea that intelligence is innate and he devised the first IQ test to test the individual
