Life Lessons in Finding Nemo School, work and life. These are all things that can get tough at times. I am always looking for something that will help me through the tough times. I also am always on the lookout for new ways to inspire the students that I work with every day. I always find films a good inspiration. Although I am 25 years old, I still find a comfort and motivation in animated films. Although there are a lot of good animated films that have good morals and life lessons in them, there is one in particular that really changed my life, both personally and professionally. Throughout the course of my life, I have always turned to Finding Nemo as an inspiration for myself to keep moving forward and to teach my students that disabilities do not hinder a person. Like most people, I have always had struggles in life. Even though in retrospect I realize that those events have made me a stronger person, at the time it did not seem like I would make it through them. When I first saw Finding Nemo, I was struggling with many personal issues. One particular scene really spoke to me. In this particular scene, Dory was speaking to Marlin when he felt as though he had lost the only way to find his son. While Marlin was feeling that all hope was lost, Dory spoke three little words to him that have really influenced my life. Those words were “Just keep swimming!” That really spoke to me. I never would have thought that three little words spoken by a little blue fish in an animated film would influence my life in such a profound way. It really concreted the idea that no matter what you just have to keep going, do not stop. I have applied this to my life, I have also tried to instill this thought into the students whose live I touch on a daily basis.
