Baseball may be the favorite pastime for millions of Americans--for me, it’s my life. A game of strength, skill, and stamina; for me it is also a game of physics and math. One hot game day, I watched parents and supporters cheering at World Series decibels. As we took the field to warm up, I had it all figured out that a win today would put us in the history books. While others busied themselves throwing and catching, I thought about how I was going to work with Mr. Newton’s laws--of inertia, of acceleration, and of reaction--in my pitching, and was determined not to let him down.
Americans think differently from Chinese people because we have more independence than them. In the book the Brave Dragons, the team had to go through these difficult and extensive training sessions that were supposed to get them better. Derek Jeter is an example, in his career he had to become a better player because he was doing too many mistakes. To get better he went to a training camp where he practice his catching skills and also his batting skills. When we talk about the different paradigm between the American and the Chinese, Derek Jeter accomplishment apply to the American paradigm because Jeter loved baseball since he was a little boy and always knew he was going to join the New York Yankees.
Like I said before I have pitched at the high school and college level, so whatever the customer is trying to achieve I can help. I Can teach my customers how to pitch 7 different pitches Fast ball - drop curve Change up Drop ball Screw ball Rise ball Curve ball My dad who is my business partner also knows what he is doing; he watched me and went to all my pitching lessons, he will catch the pitchers at all the lessons. I also want to stress the importance of the mental aspect of pitching because I have been there and as you get older that part of the game is the hardest part of the game. Summer Camps During the summers we will have 3 pitching instructing camps. There will be one camp in each of the months of summer.
My Glory Days When I was twelve years old, I wanted to be a baseball player. Unluckily for me and my dreams, I did not make it to the major leagues. That did not stop me from waking up every morning and making myself better, so I could play on the team called the Trinidad and Tobago’s. Like me, my teammates had intense workouts and ambitions to get better. One event in my childhood stands out clearly in my memory and become stronger as I grow older.
Miguel was proud of himself at the end of the day. Miguel faced many other challenges in his life such as rehabbing his leg to try and get ready for baseball in the oncoming fall. However, when the time came for Miguel to be on the field again he was always the first one on and the last one off because he learned a very valuable lesson, we never know when our last opportunity to do something we love is so enjoy every second of
It is a requirement that at the end of each game both teams line up and slowly walk past shaking hands and congratulating one another on the game just played, whether they won or lost. I remember saying the Lord’s Prayer before a huge game as a team, and enduring a loss after putting my heart in the game. Telling an opponent “good game”, and shaking their hands after incurring a loss really teaches one how to be respectful. Respect is a lesson vital to learn in life, and is taught in baseball on a daily basis. Respect and reverence are lessons one needs to learn to be able to operate successfully in a business, especially when working with figures of authority such as a boss.
Being competitive makes you want to do your best and ultimately win. In society today, if you are not on top then you are not recognized. In today’s world, parents are teaching their children to just have fun and not to care about winning. Children today compete in sports, who has the best grades, best clothes, and the newest electronics. Kids should always have fun, but competition is what makes it fun.
In the fall of 2010 I left BRCC with a degree in Liberal Arts and certificate in general studies. I am in my third semester at Southern and I am enjoying every minute and I could not be more proud of this institution despite what’s been said or what’s going on. After I receive my bachelors’ degree in Psychology and get certified in Health & Physical Education & Adapted Physical Education, I plan on getting my masters in Supervision and Administration. I chose teacher education program at Southern because of the quality teachers that have came through the SUBR teacher education program. I currently work with children with disability in the Zachary Community School System and love every minute because you get an opportunity to reach out to children who never really had chance and to be able to give them a chance is very rewarding.
------------------------------------------------- A coach is someone to teach you, guide you, and make you a better person as well as a player. And whether you know it or not they make a big impact on your life, well at least mine did. Everyone has someone that they can go towards and look to when life gets hard. For me that was my softball coach. She has taught me so many things and has always been there for me on and off the field, she is someone that I can really look up to.
I am in a job now where I can touch lives in a different way and be a positive influence. I have made a lot of friends through my work and by playing softball. I was teaching and showing my two children how to be confident, strong and independent. They were getting to witness first hand that with a strong family and faith; I was going to be alright. I did not let what the doctors had to say or my divorce bring me so far down that I would not have been able to recover.
