As a professional, I have a responsibility to engage in continuous professional development. This means taking action to keep my skills and knowledge up to date and seeking to improve my capabilities across the range of tasks I carry out daily. Continually improving my knowledge is essential to my role and ensures that I have the skills and knowledge needed to create the best provision for the service users in my home. I need to be aware of the most up to date legislations and guidelines, including the CQC requirements and the welfare requirements.
BSBWOR501B PROJECT 1 I feel an effective leader is someone who can always see the bigger picture of any situation, is committed to their work, has uncompromising integrity and is consistent in their behaviour and attitude. Respect, Integrity, motivated, approachable, supportive and encouraging are the words that come to my mind and are values that are important to me and this is how I choose to conduct myself personally and professionally. Keeping up to date with the latest information and skills and to continue developing my skills and knowledge is also valuable as an effective leader and I encourage my employees to continue to learn and ask questions. To be an effective leader you also need to be a good role model and to me this means leading by example. Knowing your own strengths and weaknesses and those of your employees, taking the time to know your employees is vital for a strong and cohesive team environment and will enable you to be able to bring the best out of your team because you understand their strengths and weaknesses and you know the person.
As a manager, I can help foster a good climate in several ways. First, I should always make my expectations of your team members clear. Secondly, when delegating, always empower each team member. Making sure I give the team member the authority to make and carry out decisions that are required. Furthermore, I will always support and back up the decisions made by the team member.
It is a skill in itself to be able to listen to feedback carefully without becoming defensive. It is often easy to begin to defend the reasons why I do things, but the key is to remember that the focus is on improving performance. It is my responsibility to ensure my knowledge and skills are up to date. It is important to regularly attend training and refresher courses such as First Aid, health and safety training. Legislations and procedures are constantly changing and it is important to maintain your knowledge and keep it correct.
I can promote good practice by leading by example and by ensuring staffs are fully trained in risk assessment and promoting the individuals rights and person centred care planning. By ensuring staff are well trained and fully aware of risk management it ensures individuals are being actively supported and empowered to reach their full potential. I use my own supervisions with my manager to be able to reflect on my own performance and can look at ways in which this can be improved upon through training and development. It is also useful to periodically look at the HSE website to update my general knowledge on specific areas and through my 1 2 1 appraisal I use more in depth reflection processes to give examples of my own practices that demonstrate positive outcomes in the area of Health and Safety. 4.4 Analyse how helping others to understand the balance between risk and rights improves practice.
Secondly, I need to be aware of my behaviour and its impact on others. I also need to project positive energy to the work environment and constantly provide encouragement to staff. To be a good role model means I have to be diplomatic and treat everyone the same; there can be no prejudices or preferences for people. It is important for me to respect people and their viewpoints, always listen to people and make people feel valued and lastly always act with integrity and professionalism. To be an effective leader requires certain traits that are either inherent to a person or can be learnt.
I would use the input from my employees to help me make the best decision for our company. I want the best for my company and my employees. I would like to take into consideration all the suggestion my employees have. With their suggestions and my insight of business together we should succeed all our goals and make our company succeed in every way possible. I want to be able to run my company and solve all the problems that arise the best way for everybody.
For example, a supervisor will be a role model at all times teaching each employee what it takes to be successful. This is an ongoing process and a good supervisor is always ready and willing to help that employee succeed. A good planner is essential to being a good supervisor. A supervisor plans an objective to ensure that the needs of the company. Organization work towards a common goal according to the type.
5. Communicating. Communication is the key, whether it is with your team, with manager or our customers. It is all about setting right expectations, talking about positive and negative things so we all clear on what is going on and can improve on our performance. I do my best to have regular conversations with my team so I can not only get to know them better but also find out if there are any areas I can be helpful with.
