Many people have a negative outlook on the drug painted by the media and the government. But little do we know marijuana has be around since the ancient times. The first reference to cannabis (marijuana) dates as far back as 2737BC (narconon international) It was used and spread though China, India, and North Africa. The Chinese used it for medication for gout, malaria. In India it was only used for recreation. Constitution states that the government cannot make laws “prohibiting the free exercise of religion”. Therefore many people who use marijuana as a religious rituals because marijuana is illegal. The law on not using marijuana force them not to use marijuana clearly prohibits the free exercise. Little do people know marijuana in religion dates back to the second millennium and continues still today. The Chinese religion used marijuana on daily basis for general health and to develop the ability to speak to spirits. The Scythians (the modern day Iran) used it to induce trance-like spiritual experiences and for divination. Hinduism used it for the belief that it would cleanse a user of their sins and help them become one with Shiva. The most popular religion that still use is marijuana is Rastafarian. They believe by using it will bring a person closer to god they also believe that marijuana is the tree of life. Even though not all religions still practice smoking or drinking this herb, for the ones who do they should have the right to religious freedom. The great debate over the legalization of marijuana is costing taxpayers millions of dollars each year. If the lawmakers would just past the law it will help out the Americans people a great deal; by all the positive reason given people will start to see the good side of marijuana.
