The film affirms the importance of belonging through the key message of the film being that through acceptance of others, a healing positive growth can develop. Another key example is Karin’s persistent in connecting with Lars. She jumps in front of his car to invite him to dinner, he tries to leave her and she crash tackles him to the floor. Through the persistent acceptance, love and support of the community, Lars is able to find genuine happiness and meaningful belonging through connection with others.
