Noone seems to have the real cause of it, they just assume she’s going to kill herself and they wanted her to. They say she lost her ways and that her like a man that wasn’t up to people-with-money standards. In the end she doesn’t use the poison for herself………….. When Miss Emily dies the women are not mournful but curious to go into her house and scope around. The men seem to pay their respects.
Maria’s mother acts fast and hides Maria and Alberto in the hole her father made for their safety. Maria’s mother scarifies herself for the safety of her children. If Maria’s mother went into the hole with them the Contras would of notice the untouched breakfast on the table and would search for them and kill them all. By Maria’s mother staying behind the Contras thought they got everyone in the house and would not search for Maria and Alberto. Trauma begins when Maria hears everything from the hole and the torturing and screaming of her mother.
He gives her a mission and tells her that if she succeeds, she will officially be a striker. West goes to the alt’s house and waits. She finally sees the other girl on the street and throws a knife at her which kills her. She panics and runs away, leaving the corps to lay there. She decides to tell herself that with each strike, she won’t be killing someone as much as she’ll be letting someone else live.
Patrick Maloney came home from work and tells Mary Maloney that he is leaving her. Mary Maloney wanted to cook him supper, so she went downstairs to get a leg of lamb and when she came back up she walked behind him and “swung the big leg of lamb high in the air and brought it down as hard as she could on the back of his head” (382). The irony jumps out at us because Mary Maloney was supposed to be nice and cook him supper. Mary Maloney makes it out that somebody else killed him and the cops and detectives ate the weapon and did not know. The reader wants to keep reading to find out
The police arrive at Harold's home to deliver the sad news to his mother. After telling her, his mother collapses with outstretched arms creating a dramatic scene, not knowing that Harold is actually home and can see. Harold knows that his mother does not really care about him, but she was just acting as though his death was important. From that moment, Harold decides to "...[enjoy] being dead". Maude teaches Harold to not let anything get in the way of his goals.
All the people in it were old and weary and cutting up vegetables. Ella and Benjamin were told to play with the other kids while the parents prepared dinner. Ella and Benjamin felt uncomfortable playing with the kids. They were playing some sort of capture game and they didn’t understand. Ella went inside to talk to her parents and she found them in a room secluded from everyone else.

Liliana quickly ran over to where our mother was and began begging our father to stop hurting her while Nina grabbed Alex and took him to his room to get him to stop crying. My father glanced at me and Liliana before walking out of the kitchen. That night, we went to the hospital and our mother ended up having to where a cast because she broke her wrist when she fell. The very next day, we went to a dinner party where we had to pretend to be a big, happy family.
