May of 2012, my family immigrated from the Philippines to USA. Unlike other immigrants that thought of touring on their first day, I thought of my future. Immediately, I was placed as a sophomore at Cleveland High School in Seattle, Washington. I felt like the ground turned into water. Repeating two years of high school would be hard for me to take in. Thoughts ran haywire through my head. I was already seventeen years old. How old will I be when I graduate? Motivated to earn a degree, I did not let that stop me from achieving my dreams. I came prepared and eager to learn in my class every day. After one month, my high school counselor told me great news, “Based on your translated transcript, you have course credits more than we require, and based on your current grades, you performed well. You are ready to be in the senior level.” Given the opportunity, I did not waste my time lingering around. I asked one of my teachers where she graduated and she said proudly, “University of Michigan”. Driven by my curiosity, I went ahead and researched more about the school and its opportunities. I found out that UM ranks among the top universities not only in USA but also around the world. Henceforth, studying here would open ample opportunities for me.…show more content…
I believe that the LSA honor program’s rigorous academic demands as well as fascinating opportunities across fields will best prepare me for what lies ahead. Although UM have a big student body, I believe that I can still strive to develop good relationship with my Professors, and participate in discussions where I can share my opinions and learn something from others. Outside the classroom, the large diverse population of the University would allow me to learn varieties of interesting culture.
