Knowledge is Power “Knowledge is Power”, but knowledge does not always come with power. According to Webster's Dictionary, knowledge is the state of awareness or understanding gained from experience or study by learning specific information about something. This means that a person has the resourcefulness to obtain and criticize useful and informative information in order to become well educated. That person will have the ability to make intelligent decisions based upon their understanding and awareness of everyday situations. Does this make them powerful? That is a question that creeps into one’s mind. As stated in Webster's Dictionary, power is said to be the ability or capacity to act or perform effectively. Without knowledge, how can this ability to perform effectively be possible? John Dewey said, “Education is a not a preparation for life; education is life itself.” Education is the accumulation of knowledge, information, and skills during the course of life. It provides a foundation on which a person will base the rest of his or her life. Also, it enhances knowledge, and knowledge is the key to acquiring power. One may have knowledge but should also know how to use it. When you look at America's rise to power during the past war era, it is easy, as well as trivial, to attribute it to the abundance of natural resources and surplus number of new inventions. More importantly than what made America the most powerful country in the world is why it became the most powerful country. This proves that knowledge is very much a necessity to gain power. Education is a crucial part of all societies. It develops critical thinkers and deepens people's ability to think, to act, and to increase their productivity.
