I think overall our Kiwanis performance is good. We worked hard to prepare for this event and personally I think we did our best in this performance. We can really see the progress of our hard work paying off seeing the ways which we played in harmony when compared to the first time we tried to play this piece. Nonetheless, I believe if more time is given, we could greatly improve the dynamics to make this performance even better. I agree with the adjudicator on the “preparedness” of our performance. We practiced a lot and it is evident to him that we all worked really hard on this piece. I also agree with his comment that we put a lot of energy, as required to play this song to further demonstrate our skills to him and the audience. I disagree with his statement that we need to improve on our choral to make it more “connected.” I believe we played the choral very well and it’s definitely one of the contrasts that highlighted our performance. In comparison to other bands in the Kiwanis festival, I realize our piece lacks complexity, especially when the length of our piece is fairly short. This may add to our disadvantage if the judge takes the degree of difficulty into consideration. Although the other two bands lack a good soloist performance, their ability to play as a band makes up for their solos. This is enhanced when they exaggerate the intensity of the sound and made clear distinction between accents and staccatos. I feel like we lost the tempo during the middle of the performance. The speed when we repeat the beginning of the piece also wasn’t up to pace as it should be. After the saxophone solo, the tenor saxophone players did not pay closer attention to the dynamics of the piece hence it sounds a bit blurry. I like North Toronto’s intro to their piece. They drastically increase their volume to have a memorable introduction to their piece,
