We as citizens have the right to live life in freedom without undue harm and to pursue our dreams and goals. Jefferson believes the government needs to respect our opinion by not putting it aside and to just listen to the citizens. The citizens have the right to set up a new government so the citizens have a better political life. To achieve the happiness we desire, the need for possession would be required. Jefferson says, “We hold these truths to be self-evidence, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness” (Jefferson, 80).
By doing this, he will not only have to work for a company he dislikes, he will save a lot of lives as well since nobody is going to be smoking Greyarea’s product anymore due to discontinuity. This will also lead to a better and happier society, and that is what utilitarianism is all about. As for being a Deontologist, according to The History of Utilitarianism of the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, the word deontology comes from the Greek word deon, meaning “duty.” Deontology is the normative ethical position that judges the morality of an action based on the action’s adherence to a rule or rules. It is the ethics of duty where morality is duty-based. If Fred was a deontologist, then he would have no choice but to keep doing the assignments that were assigned to him by the company he is working for because that is his job and he is obligated to them no matter the
The main idea of this quote is equality. No matter what person looks like or believes in they should be treated the same so they can do their best in their society. What does the persons quote say about their ideology? This quote would say Harvey Milk is a liberal person because he believes in freedom and equality. He believes equality and support is the healthiest environment for a person to grow up in making them achieve the best for them self and their society.
The Relationship Lens is focused on processing the systems needing for an ethical organization. It protects the basic liberties of all people Everyone is entitled to their rights no mater what their income status is as well as the right to a fair process. The Reputation Lens is focused on whether we are exhibiting the virtues which are prized in the community for people who are in our roles. These ethical lenses affected my decision making in that it ensured that I was open and honest in all facts of these cases. Ethical perspective is not always about making everyone happy, because it is virtually impossible to make everyone happy.
Universalism is where people should uphold certain values, such honesty as well as other values that society needs in order to function correctly. Universal principles may be powerful and useful, however what people say, hope, or think they would do is often now what is actually done in the long run. Egoism is acceptable behavior which maximizes benefits for an individual “doing the right thing,’ the focus of moral philosophy is defined by egoism as “do the act that promotes the greatest good for oneself” (mhhe.com, Ethics and Corporate Responsibility). Utilitarianism, unlike egoism, seeks the greatest good for the greatest amount of people. Organizations seek the greats good for the largest amount of consumers they can supply to, increasing their need for product.
This leads Mill and Nietsche to believe that whatever they choose to do with their lives to make them happy, then that is their form of "right." In contrast, Aquinas would be the one to side with Aristotle because both philosophers are aiming towards reaching virtue and happiness in the end. Aquinas believes that law is nothing but reason for the common good, and that,if laws are obeyed, people will be led towards their happiness. This is similar to what Aristotle believes. He believes that people must do good to reach moral excellence (virtue), so if his and Aquinas's theories were combined, humans would reach virtue and happiness all together by obiding by the laws created for
Several just look at it as a life better than the horrible one they are living. In the eyes of Vine Deloria, Vernon Jerrett, and C.P Ellis, the American Dream is very particular to each individual. And in my eyes, I see Vine Deloria’s view of the American Dream as correct compared to the other two. Vernon Jarrett’s view of American is to be in a place where everyone is treated equal where whites do not abuse. He wants to become somebody (54).
The constitution does this with the first amendment allowing for free speech whether it’s popular or not. American society is seen (at least in theory) as a place where you can immigrate to poor and through hard work and determination make yourself into whatever you want to become. This social mobility also has to do with comparing equality of opportunity with that of equality of results. Opportunity is where you believe that everyone deserves an equal opportunity to achieve prosperity and results is where you believe that equal effort demands equal results. With opportunity you have the challenge of reaching the very poor and the destitute with the same opportunities as the rich.
An Unfair Playing Field Today, people would like to think that their achievements or what they set out to achieve was or can be obtained by their intelligence, effort and by their abilities. They would like to believe that their society is a meritocracy. Meritocracy is a system where outcomes such as jobs, wealth, opportunities and power are given on the principle of intelligence and effort, meaning that ones accomplishments were fairly earned. Meritocracy is considered to be the ideal social system because it is bias free and encourages equality. It only considers ones abilities and neglects race, gender and social class.
Then we can check the persons’ documents to make sure their legally here. We need to come up with a fool proof system of making sure immigrants with the American dream can stay. They should not be deported, but instead they should be made to go through the process of legal entry into the United States. All of us who live in America have adopted this great country. Illegal immigration takes place over the world; the main reason is because people want to have a better life, hell, even a chance at life itself.
