We all take and take from what America has to offer and we can’t spare 30 seconds with our right hands over our hearts reciting words that we memorized in 1st grade? The simple truth is that you live in America and that’s all it takes to to respect to it. About 12 million troops have died for our country and that number will continue to rise, as our war with Iraq continues to go on. The Pledge of Allegiance was written with a strong meaning that Americans, like us understand.
President Obama ran a consistent theme through the entirety of his speech. Many aspects of his speech such as foreign policy, the economy in our nation, and the war linked back to the historical ideals and the foundation our nation have been built on. For example, “For us, they packed up their few worldly possessions and traveled across oceans in search of a new life. For us, they toiled in sweatshops and settled the West, endured the lash of the whip and plowed the hard earth.” President Obama arouses the challenge of responsibility to our country. By linking the aspects to the history of our founding fathers the speech was structured and strong.
Doris Kearns Goodwin’s lengthy depiction of the rest of Lincoln’s rivals tells the rollercoaster ride of emotions they all felt during the presidential nominations. The author is able to show how each of the men who shared the spotlight with Lincoln before his nomination and eventual victory in the race for the presidency strategized with and against each other. The shared opinion about Lincoln’s finances, qualifications, or lack thereof is a common theme throughout the entirety of the book. The book itself is a very detailed, long read. Doris Kearns Goodwin is a noted historical, nonfiction, author with many works especially about former presidents of the United States.
Laura Harvey Principles of Leadership BA-223 Analysis of King/Hitler Speech September 15, 2013 Analysis of King/Hitler Speech Martin Luther King Jr. and Adolf Hitler were two men who changed the world from behind a podium. They were both influential leaders that motivated a great number of people and left a lasting impact on society. The impressions these men made were undoubtedly different, but when comparing King’s “I have a dream” speech to one of Hitler’s historical speeches, it is possible to find similarities in how they influenced their followers. In the speeches analyzed, both King and Hitler were able to encourage unification amongst their followers. The two men understood and appreciated the missions of their supporters, adapted to their audiences, and remained themselves while stepping up as leaders.
Jimmy Carter – Human Rights Speech James “Jimmy” Carter spoke of Human Rights often. He first addressed this in his inauguration speech. He would continue to address this important issue many times while in office, and many more times after leaving office. He spoke on this issue with clear feeling and hope that we all would see how important this topic was and how much it affected all of us. Carter was already speaking up for the less fortunate when he was Governor.
Thirty-fifth President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, in his inaugural address, expresses the need to unite in order to gain world peace. Because Kennedy gave this speech during his inauguration, he inspires an entire audience around the world, instead of just in America. Kennedy’s purpose is to begin making a better America, to in turn make a better World. He adopts an inspirational tone in order to recruit the citizens of the world to help him. Kennedy begins his speech by stating that we, as the United States are willing to help any friend or indifferent group in the pursuit of liberty.
To me that define a great leader, an individual who puts his personal concerns aside to focus on the needs of others to help mankind grow for the greater good. I will briefly describe MLK brief bio of his life, leadership style, and leadership characteristics. MLK’s “I Have a Dream” is by far his famous speech, has inspired and touch the hearts of countless of people, not only in America but throughout the world. It shows that with dedication, hard work, courage, determination, and numerous of other great qualities, you can make anything happen. MLK was born Michael Luther King, Jr. but later changed his name to Martin.
In fact that did help in recovering his brother a little bit. After Henry repaired the car He seemed a little bit happy but that happiness was not enough, still the sadness could be noticed in him. As Layman says “He was better than he had been before, but that’s still not saying much” (24). As the story ends, Henry choose to drown himself in the river. The idea of a space telescope has been around for many decades, but only recently became a reality. The first proposal of a space telescope can be traced back to nineteen twenty three. Hermann Oberth known as the inventor of modern rocketry technology proposed that a telescope could be sent into space using a rocket. In the nineteen seventies the vision for a space telescope would become a reality.
