Maggie has a close relationship with her mom; they seem to share a lot of the same views. Maggie has learned to appreciate her heritage and does not wish to change it. To Maggie, the quilts are anything but simple scraps of clothe sewn together, they have so much more meaning. Maggie shows in the story that she does not want the quilts as merely just a reminder of the important people in her life, she wants them because they are a representation of who she is and her past. Maggie wants them for sentimental value, she admits to putting them to "everyday use."
Due to her nurture, her environment it would make no difference of her achievements. Emotional: The emotional aspect of Jasmin’s life is determined by her nurture, this is because she is effected by the environment, for example if her parents always argued
We live in a world where we expect people to assist us in our time of need although we refuse to help those who truly need our assistance. Instead of making excuses, pointing fingers and placing blame on those less fortunate for their short comings ,we should learnt to embrace others and uplift them . At the end of it all giving to others in need is the only moral and ethical thing we can choose
Amy was selfish. She did what she wanted, what made her happy, and what she believed was right. I also thought the town would have been more supporting of Will Kane. He chose to potentially jeopardize his life by trying to protect the town of Hadleyville and the town in return never once tried to protect
The way he didn’t give up when he did not have to positive encouragement from his community is another reason why this piece stood out to me. It told me that even though that everyone will not be on the same page as you but you should not give up because you are making it count to not only you but someone else that may look up to you. Like when he goes to tell wife Michelle that he wants to quit she tells him that this project will be the most important thing they will ever do. She says that she understands that it will be hard and there will be a lot of sacrifices but she is willing to find out together. By his wife standing by his side willing to change all her ways made me believe that there is always someone there with you even if you don’t know
Since experiences are what ultimately shape an individual, reflecting upon those personal experiences lead to self discovery. A problem arises when those experiences themselves are not real. In the essay “The Loss of the Creature,” Walker Percy questions the ability of people to have authentic experiences. He argues that one must enter a situation with no preconceptions in order to have a real-life experience. If this was the case, genuine events would be very rare.
It is important to keep a balance of the important things in one’s life otherwise, weaknesses can be developed that shadows over a person’s natural strength to prioritize. A balance of the important things in one’s life is what allows personal success to be achieved. Successfulness is the ability to seize new opportunities and explore new paths in life. Balance is the key to success because when there is balance in one’s life there is a cut back of stress, which makes room for the ability to thrive; and a person’s ability to thrive is what carries them to their personal success. To be successful is to understand what is important to you, to recognize your weaknesses without hiding behind them, to strive for balance as well as open new doors in life.
That’s exactly what Tessie Hutchinson needed in this abominable short story. She herself could have made the change to save a life. Tessie however, was of equal power as the rest of the community. In the story “The Lottery”, the town is symbolic of how humanity is defenceless in the state of change; the town also represents how some people, unless they feel empowered to do so, have no intention to change tradition, and often are only inclined to change if it affects one directly. In this story, the towns people potrayed just that: weakness against change.
This is primarily because he does not think about the most important aspect of this obsession with is Georgiana herself. He lacks the respect and consideration to avoid embarrassment for Georgiana. By constantly focusing on this one flaw that his wife has, it has made her very self-conscience and equally despise it. If Aymler had more of a conscience he would not try to obtain this sense of pleasure of picturing his wife without the birthmark as he would embrace it and think it was equally as beautiful as the rest of her
With no actual discrimination present, it is important to look at reasons for why people feel as though they are being discriminated against. In any situation which a person has some sort of emotional attachment, their ability to see the reality of that situation can be altered. As an example, if at any time an applicant has his sponsorship denied, the only realization which tends to exist is that they will not be able to reunite with their family, causing the emotions mentioned earlier. Because sponsors have a strong emotional bond for the family member which they would like to bring over, the truth with regards to this situation can again be considered to be altered. In these cases, the sponsors are concerned more with reuniting with family than if they will be actually capable of providing for them.
