Harry Potter – an object of propaganda In her article, "Is harry potter evil? ", Judy Blume is trying to be the defending guard of the "Harry Potter" series, written by J. K. Rowling, from these who willing to put the successful books on the restricted shelf. Blume says that in several states in the US, parents are calling to remove the books from school libraries and classes pleading that it's "promoting interest in the occult" (Judy Blume, Is Harry Potter evil?). According to Blume, whose some of her books were banned from schools, there are parents that don't completely understand the meaning of 'Fantasy' and think "these stories teach witchcraft, sorcery and Satanism" (Judy Blume). She also note that when looking back in literature history one can find other books that were called against from various reasons, like Mark Twain's "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" that was blamed in promoting racism.
To be blacklisted means to be put on a list of people or products viewed with suspicion or disapproval (Free Dictionary), which means nobody would hire you for work. Blacklisting was kind of like what was going on in The Crucible because if you were accused of doing witchcraft, your reputation in the town of Salem was ruined. Arthur Miller’s development of fear in the Crucible is the same as the fear during the Red Scare. Abigail accused Tituba doing witchcraft and just because she was afraid of being hanged, she pled guilty. Being accused of being a witch in Salem, Massachusetts was alarming because even if one was innocent, they are still held guilty.

“witch accusations” Many missionaries are working at a mission field where “witchcraft” is involved. And generally missionaries do not know how to deal with witchcraft. Most missionaries ignore it or regard it as satanic power. Aftertimes they are afraid of involving themselves with witchcraft. So I would like to give a workshop for my young missionary colleagues as I have learned in the seminary course I took on “popular religions” where readings and lectures discussed witch accusations.
The Language Police Throughout “The Language Police,” the angered author, Diane Ravitch, speaks her mind on the issue of censorship. Censorship shelters students from the real world and gives them a false sense of reality. Ravitch believes that students are being censored to such an extreme that their freedom is being limited. The goal of the language police is not just to stop us from using objectionable words but to stop us from having objectionable thoughts (Ravitch 158). The language police are restricting what students learn by removing anything that may appear controversial.
Do Not Censor Knowledge! In the dark ages and during the third Reich of Hitler, free and opinionated speech in the form of books were burnt and destroyed. These books and stories that people put their life and their memories into, are lost forever. In the United States people try to censor books, words, and other things that they think people shouldn’t see or read. People should be able to decide what they want and don’t want to read.
However, by presenting both sides of the argument one can understand the reasons why it shouldn’t be read and why it should be read. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, should not be read because of the racist, harsh, and critical language in the book. However, it should be read because it helps teach personal morals and judgments, as well as important themes like friendship or love. You can never “candy-coat” material to protect teens from reading such material. Sooner or later they will have to find out.
Oprah was originally named “Orpah” after the Biblical character in the book of Ruth, but there was a typo on her birth certificate. She was brought up by her grandmother, Hattie Mae Lee. Her grandmother taught Oprah to read and write by the age of three. Because they lived such poor lives, Oprah was made fun of for wearing dresses made of potato sacks and played with dolls made of corn husks. She actually didn’t receive her first pair
Yet I believe that this book, “The Chocolate War” by Robert Cormier, should be kept in schools to be read by teenagers. Many people believe that this book should be banned for the fact that it talks about bullying and violence. In a couple parts of the story, Jerry is beaten up. There are also multiple parts where the Vigils or Janza bully a kid. But that isn’t so bad that we should ban it.
Such as parents banning books so their children do not have to read books that they think are inappropriate. I believe books should not deserve to be banned in Liberty High School because we Junior High School students deserve to read unique kinds of books so we can experience the different qualities that books have. For instance, in my high school career, I have read books that have been banned but there are two specific books that I’ve been concerned of; which is Flowers for Algernon and Romeo and Juliet. A number of parents have banned these two specific books
