The First way that humor strengthens Sedaris’s argument is by making himself likable to the readers. In ‘humor in an Argument “Lunsford, Ruszkiewicz, and Walters note ,”In fact, a little self-deprecation can endear writers or speaker to the toughest audiences.” (396). In this quote the editors illustrate how it is essential to get attention of most readers to keep them interested. In “The Chicken in The Henhouse” Sedaris jokes about his fears of being around people, as a result of people’s confusion about homosexuals with pedophiles. Accord “I have never poked or prodded either a baby or a child, so why did I feel so dirty?” (Sedaris 222) This quote supports the argument that homosexuals can not touch any child, because their acts, perhaps, would be compulsive rather than sexual, and they think that others are misunderstanding them.
From years of perfecting the recipes that create the infamous soul food, to cheering on your favorite team at a football game alongside of a cultivating southern belle or southern gentlemen or simply using the word “y’all”, the South has arose and developed into an everlasting place to call home. Without the trivial ingredients found below the Mason-Dixon Line, the South would be undefined. A hint of salt there and a spice of Cajun here has set apart Southern cuisine for decades. While a splash of these simple seasonings may seem trivial, they have attracted many travelers and inspired many individuals to attempt to recreate this Southern trademark. When the word soul food comes to mind, you often conclude this means “fried food.” However, the trivial origins of this so called soul food actually derived from the logistics of survival.
Week one: I, Chicken Little, was flabbergasted by the sight of millions of other chickens that look identical to me in this small place we’re now supposed to call our home. I hear the faint call of my name from my family from hundreds of chickens over. Will I ever see them again? Week two: A rumor goes around that the way of production around here is broiler production. My mom tells me that broiler production is the production of biscuits that we get to eat, but I secretly think she is lying to me so I won’t worry.
It is completely different than need. Cooking well could be the love a street cart vendor has for his tamale recipe brought from his native country. The love someone has for their family and friends to make the humblest of food into fuel from the heart or an elaborate celebratory feast. The hot, steaming bowl of homemade chicken soup or the elaborate Thanksgiving dinner with more food than anyone should ever consume in a day yet alone one sitting. The passion that comes from the ability of taking what food you have and turning it into something magnificent is cooking well.
Also, try to avoid parentheses when possible, and where did you find the Latin name? Be sure to include this in the “References” at the end. To cite the source of the Latin name, you will do a simple (author_lastname, date) in parentheses which is why they should be avoided :) ] or wild leeks are the stinky springtime treasure of the Appalachian region–the white parts can be used in cooking similar to a strong onion or garlic, and the leafy greens are just as edible. Most people enjoy them fried in bacon grease by themselves or chopped and fried in with potatoes and eggs. I personally enjoy them fried in bacon grease.
From my bedroom window I could hear the sound of children playing. I could also here, “three Naira for two, buy one get the other half off”, it was Hanu my neighbor carrying around his wagon with shoes. Hanu had a good way of persuading people into buying his cheap quality items. My wife was calling me, “Hayatt, come down and eat!”, I went downstairs to greet Shana, she greeted back and placed a bowl filled with beef stew on the table. Beef stew was my favorite and Shana made it even better then my mother used to.
I was born very light skinned so it’s hard to tell my ethnicity. There is a stereotype that all black people like chicken and watermelon. I find this very offensive but it’s related to the days of slavery when it was said that blacks ate so much chicken because it was cheap, easy to feed, and a good source of meat but others saw it as “dirty” and that’s why they ate it with their hands (GENE DEMBY. n.d.). As time progressed and the stereotype built up it became natural to associate black people with eating fried chicken.
As one of the “Bible Belt” states, Virginia is known for its “southern dishes,” which includes various fried foods. Cooking is very family oriented in the south. Children learn to cook from their parents, and use recipes that have been passed on from one generation to another. These recipes are usually high in calories, fat and cholesterol. All of which contribute to the client’s overall health.
Advertising Bad Habits As a child what were your favorite foods to eat? Cheeseburgers, pizza, and ice cream, if I were to ask any stranger this question, their answer would undoubtedly be one of those I’ve just named. Although If I were to ask what your least favorite food was, I would indeed hear broccoli, peas, or even carrots mentioned. Why so? Where does this dislike of healthy food come from, even before we taste them?
