It surprises me how technology has developed and improved when compared to technology (or lack of it) 40 years ago. Back then everything was much more simple, but in its own way. You can argue that the advancement in technology has simplified more difficult processes and everyday things, and enabled everything to be done more efficiently, not to mention increased peoples happiness and quality of life. One important and obvious example of useful technology are computers and mobile phones. People can now stay in constant contact with their friends and relatives from any place in the world. We are able to send instant messages in many different ways through the internet and through our phones. We have access to the news, the internet, the tv 24/7; we can find out what is happening in another country in an instant without need of going there ourselves. We can watch events and people through the internet, and we can post information to the world at the click of a button. Now is this useful? Ofcourse! It has meant that however busy we are, we can rely on our technological devices to update us on everything. Businesses have been able to improve and become more efficient, families have been able to go away and still be able to see and talk to each other. On the question of happiness; the devices and services themselves may not provide us with joy, however, if you are surrounded with all of it and you don’t own it, you are missing out. It is almost necessary to have access to these things in order to keep up with the fast pace of life. Not only with communication, but technology has given so many benefits to people in regards to healthcare. There have been increasing amounts of research and development into different medicines to cure different illnesses which positively affects the quality of life of a person.
