In the story of Beowulf there are many demonstrations of Beowulf’s superhuman strength, but there is one event that stands out the most. That event occurred during the battle of Beowulf and the monster Grendel, in which Grendel finally is defeated. “He twisted in pain,/ and the bleeding sinews deep in his shoulder/ snapped, muscle and bone split/and broke”(105-108). Beowulf is so strong, that he is able to rip Grendels arm off. Grendel is a big, evil monster who would kill humans, so it is no easy task ripping Grendels arm off.
By the time he became king, he was so paranoid about the people around him that he could not even enjoy being the king. Banquo is Macbeth’s right hand man and he too was there when the three witches prophesied that Macbeth would be king. They told him that although he would not be king, his son would start a long line of rulers. Macbeth kills Banquo because he is nervous that he will tell the others about him becoming king. In the end, the sons of the old king and Macduff, enemy of Macbeth, join forces to defeat Macbeth and take the throne.
“I held up the guard to taunt them, then held him still higher and leered into his face… As if casually… I bit his head off, crunched through the helmet and skull with my teeth and, sucked the blood that sprayed like a hot, thick geyser from his neck,” (Gardner 79). This quote shows how after getting the charm no weapon could hurt Grendel which allowed him to become even more monstrous with his killing. This last quote is from the very end of the book when he enters the mead hall right before he dies. “For pure, mad prank, I snatch up a cloth from the nearest table and tie it around my neck to make a napkin… I seize up a sleeping man, tear at him hungrily, bite through his bone-locks and suck hot, slippery blood. He goes down in huge morsels, head, chest, hips, legs, even the hands and feet.

“Their courage / Was great but all wasted: They could hack at Grendel from every side, trying to open / A path for his evil soul, but their points / Could not hurt him, the sharpest and hardest iron / Could not scratch his skin, for that sin-stained demon / Had bewitched all men’s weapons, laid spells / That blunted every mortal man’s blade.” (Raffel, Trans. ll. 478-485). This reminded me of my fight with asthma. As much as my friends try and help me, nothing they do will stop it.
This part of the epic is starting to describe the torment and badgering that Grendel receives from the Danes in Herot. *Grendel’s motive for killing a portion of the Danes is not what one would normally think. In addition, this is what is what Grendel hears everyday from Herot,“ As day after day the music rang / Loud in the hall, the harp’s rejoicing / Call and the poet’s clear songs, sung / Of the ancient beginnings of us all / … Conceived by a pair of those monsters born / Of Cain, murderous creatures banished / By God, punished forever by the crime / Of Abel’s death ” (Raffel 40). The songs of Herot in which they call him a felon, torments Grendel day after day, by calling him the most dangerous and disastrous monster there is. Grendel had never disrupted the Danes or done anything to make them hate him so much.
Loki’s Children Loki, the Norse god of mischief was the wickedest among the Aesir. Typically in Norse folklore Loki is shameless, however; he did possess a large secret that he was ashamed of. Unknown to the rest of the Aesir, Loki had a secret bride. His bride, Angrboda, was the “ugliest, fiercest, and most dreadful” giantess to ever wreak havoc in Norse mythology.¹ Though Angrboda alone was a massive blemish on the reputation of a member of the Aesir, Loki had an even deeper truth that he hid in the most confidentiality. The bride of Loki was more than a wife.

Victor Frankenstein was a very avid scientist. He would spend years on certain experiments so he could get whatever he was working on perfect. Though, the last invention he made wasn’t very perfect at all. He made a hideous beast who killed multiple of his loved ones and friends, and went on a rampage of destroying peoples homes and whatever else he came across. People in society did not accept this creature, because he was so horribly ugly.
